That's a bit low based on figures seen here but further support of the 'de-tuning' of the 330d for marketing purposes.

actually just checking the figures and google translate what is actually being said is 299 bhp at the drive chain and 264 at the wheels.
makes more sense
he doesnt show figures for the original output.
641 newtons of torque seems pretty savage too.

That's a 12% drive-train loss; quite low even for a modern automatic system. Assuming a still pessimistic 15%, gives 310 bhp at the flywheel .

The torque looks fabulous but we would need to compare that against the limit for the 'box on the 330d.

Or if you can get that much torque down with sdrive, could just be undriveable

Alpina D3 is proof that xdrive is not about the need to stick the rubber to the road.

Personally I think the non-availability of xdrive on the 335d is all about marketing. BMW wants us to think that xdrive is better than sdrive. The marketeers think it "wrong" that the top model can appear in non xdrive mode, as they want the 335d to be the non-M halo car, such that any 335d is "better" than any other 3 series. The existence of a 335d without xdrive would lead to the possibility of being considered inferior to a 330d xdrive, which wouldn't do at all for a halo model.

Personally I think it's a real shame as this is my first BMW and wanted to sample the RWD setup of folklore. Sdrive was therefore a requirement for me and a reason not to get the 335d. Would definitely have got it otherwise.
