Remaps ECU cracked?
Friend of mine last week took his Mini to P-Torque in Wolverhampton and mentioned that I had bought a F30 330d and couldn't get it remapped yet - apparently from next month they are doing it? I filled in the contact us page on their website but no response yet?

I think these guys cracked the encrypted ECU on the E9X 330d LCI (the pre LCI was not encrypted). Not many tuners cracked this ECU I believe (eg Evolve) so I guess he could be the man to do it based on past experience.

Plenty companies were doing it, it's just that the physical tampering with the ECU put off a lot of owners from remapping their cars compared to before. One remapper I spoke to said there was maybe 5 more years in it as a reasonable way to make a living.

I had my E90 320d (177 bhp) done at P-Torque and was very pleased with the increased responsiveness and delivery. I never believed the 220 bhp rolling road print I got as I watched him do the foot on brake trick on the power down part where the drive-train losses are calculated. From the PAW value, I reckon it was about 200. But no problems, no loss in mpg and I would go there again.

All the tuners are waiting for the Italians (who supply the software and they probably source it from the far east)to crack the ECU then they all buy the generic maps and put their own tuning tweaks to it and market it as in house software

Do you think they did this when NISFAN got his 330d rolling roaded.

I modified the following Suburu WRX Evo 8 MR Audi A5 3.0 tdi Cayman S Abarth 500 Evo had new gearbox & clutch at 1800 miles all under warranty, despite being heavily modified all the others did not miss a beat, so no warranty claims The Cayman, Audi, Abarth, were all leased without the leasing companies permission but returned to standard when sold. Insurance company's told and small increase to premiums so no bother there, have now gone down the official route with PPK fitted to present car, so have gone legit this time but I would be happy to go down the aftermarket route the next time. If it does go wrong you have to take it on the chin and pay up, I was lucky with the Evo as the dealer was on my side and fitted a Fidanza flywheel and exeedy organic clutch all under warranty as ever you pays your money and makes your choice. |

I think a tuner *could* have a motive to frig the figures (if dyno'd at the tuning outfit) to make his remap look good. But just turning up at a some place for a dyno readout – they have no reason to frig the figures really.

Yes that's the point really - you can use a 15 to 20% drive-train loss to get an idea of engine power. Only wheel power matters of course (well, and weight and traction and balance and brakes and suspension and driver ability....)
