My BMW doesn't get along with my ipod.
It was so easy to go next-next-next from my steering wheel on my 08 335. Now, we have the scroll wheel.
I've tried everything - it's impossible to have an ipod continually shuffle at random and advance to the next track via steering wheel in this new gen. It seems like my best attempt is creating a playlist on my computer of all the songs, then choosing random in iDrive on that playlist. However, the scroll wheel only displays some of the next tracks and then hits a wall with how many songs in advance you can scroll. It's infuriating. Sometimes randomize gets cancelled - it's hard to pinpoint. Only way to do what I want is reaching over to the passenger area to hit the < > buttons. I may sound ridiculous but I just loving going from song to song quickly. I also noticed that my ipod freezes up way more often on my 2 Series than it did on my 3 Series. It'll just stay frozen in iDrive and I'll have to unplug / plug back in. Is there any fix for this yet? I see frustration started with the f30's release.

This sounds like a massive problem that would cause me much grief - I didn't notice if there were no next/prev buttons on the steering wheel like I had in my 135 - are they missing??
I use them every time I get into the car. Very disappointed I can't get this car without idrive. |

Switching sources seems to freeze the ipod pretty often. I have the square ipod nano 6th gen (latest firmware) if that helps any.
I'm learning to live with it, as there are some awesome benefits to this system, but it's a big oversight about advancing tracks randomly. The freezes are definitely unacceptable and a safety hazard. Forgot to mention, I am using the supplied Y connector with the ipod. I tried just the white cord and it doesn't locate on idrive.

Before I go and buy something that I don't need for my car that isn't here yet, if I just plug the white cord into the USB can I set the input to USB or something just to play music and charge my iPhone, and have it switch to bluetooth for calls? Not looking to get fancy here. Thanks in advance.

Confirmed that a USB thumbdrive doesn't freeze up like my iPod - all the same functionality as far as I can tell. Cheaper, holds more songs than my iPod, and no clutter in the center console.
Anyone want to buy my ipod nano?

With a CD though, you scroll the roller thing up or down, then depress/push it in and the next or previous song will play. Funny thing, it only goes one in either direction, regardless of how many times the roller is pushed up or down... I also hate it that the volume is on the right now - I used to be able to shift AND change the volume because it was on the left. What in the world is to be gained from changing that ???

I have problems with my iPod disappearing from the selection list while it was playing a song. I am using the white Apple supplied cord plugged into the USB port.

You had a nice necro on this thread.... but to answer your question, music on a thumb drive should be organized the same way iTunes does it. If you already have your music in tunes, just copy it straits to the drive. If not, import it to iTunes with the “let iTunes manage my folders” opti9n, then copy it over.
