2007 M Coupe break-in period - black box?

Hello gang.

Just picked up my 2007 M coupe on Saturday of this past weekend, and I'm loving it! <--appropriate smiley

I still have my '04 S4, but am parting it out to sell.

My question for you guys (even after searching), is that is there a black box of sorts on the bmw's for the break in period?

For instance, on the 60 miles I had on my car when I picked it up. Is there anyway the dealership can look into data showing revs over 5500, overrevs, etc.? The s54 is now 4-5 years old, but I do remember some going boom a couple years ago, and just want to be sure any prior damage that could have occurred will have mileage proof before my lease start.

Thank you

There's a black box for the theft recovery and BMW assist, but I don't think there is one for the break in period. And I don't know if the ECU saves that kind of data.

I have heard that the ECU stores any over revs and top speed. But I can't confirm if this is true.

On VWs and Audi's, the ECU would store over-rev conditions in the ECU to be read clear as day using a VAG-COM tool (software on a laptop connected via a custom OBD2 cable).

Since I could not (yet) find a software tool for the BMW that is at least as good as the factory one, I cannot say that it would save such info, but my best guess would be a yes.

but it's not over-rev when at 6500 rpm, but it's over-rev compared to what is "recommended."

FWIW-
Over rev conditions would be logged. However, to the best of my knowledge and some talk with BMW Techs, the break in period does not have the limit for logging adjusted to the recommended break in info. In short, the over rev according to break in recommendations, would not be recorded.

Just one example, we had a customer who brought their E60 M5 to the dealer because his tranny was not shifting into gear. Much to this owners dismay, he had to fight with BMW for warranty b/c he had over 40 launches recorded in the DME.
