exhaust conversion
Just got back from exhaust manufacturers He offers 2 options for replacing my single oval exhaust tip with twin circulars. (A) delete the back box and convert the single pipe to twins. cost £130. Question, anybody else done this and found problems, increased noise levels, MOT etc. Option (B) make a new back box with twin tails, cost £250. All stainless steel. Helpful comments please.

Seems a good price either option.
I had my single back box (330d) replaced with 2 smaller ones - I didn't want any change in sound. Other people have removed the back box and not had it replaced and not complained about increase noise levels.

A friend that wanted the same change done had just his tailpipe chopped off and a twin tailpipe welded on. Paid £130 for the job. Is that an option for you?

seems pretty expensive for me...
i had a decat fabricated, and a 330D exhaust system fitted for 200£ i would say there is alot more work going into a de-cat pipe (what with clearance issues etc) than just a simple backbox. also, why delete the whole back box, you could just have the tip chopped off and Y piece welded on in place, shouldn't cost more than about 50-60£ and is about 20mins work. |

Alex, now seen your for sale thread and could be interested, bearing in mind my car is an e93. Does your backbox have a flange or connector to bolt straight on? Could you be sure it is a straight swap.
