M6 and M4?

Gents,

I'm loving my 14' M6(manual) but I miss a lighter more intimate driving experience.

Do you think the M4 will offer enough of a difference to justify having both? I have a X6M now but I would trade it in for a potential M4. I was hopeful the M235 would provide the seat of the pants driving I was hoping for but it weighs about 3500 pounds where M4 is 3200 with manual.

End story is do you think M4 is be like a "a baby" M6 or a much different driving experience?

Thanks for your thoughts.

You got confused with US/german/EU weight.

So M235i is 93 lbs lighter than M4.

US curb weight is much higher because there's more standard equipment in the us, a part of the available options is included while DIN/EU is without any options, and there's some other things that count in (like 100% instead of 90% fuel).

And M4 and M6?? Now I'm jealous. If I had the money, I'd probably choose two more different cars, not two coupes.

I had same logic with M6 and X6m. Two very different car types indeed. Problem is I find the X6M while very powerful, boring to drive. Most likely due to I enjoy rowing my own gears.

So to confirm M4 is 100 pounds heavier than M4? Thank you, food for thought. I also thought about a low milage TTRS.

If it should be a low weight and nimble coupe, how about an alfa 4c? (please don't buy from the evil vw empire!)

I've not driven a Manual M6, but I have driven the manual M5 that's at Momentum Midtown. It is fun and engaging, but I drove a 335i MSport back to back with that car and the 3er chassis just has such a sense of lower mass it's hard to compare. Of course, you miss the luxury in the F30 but the F80 / F82 will compensate to a degree.

I would expect the M4 to drive very differently than the M6. Much lighter and more nimble than the M6, which really is more of a luxury GT cruiser, even though it is so capable.

After driving the m235i today, IMO it just won't do the trick for you. It's not as special as a proper M car and I'd even argue it's not even as special as the S3/S4 from Audi which is similarly priced. It was a good car but my reaction was more "mehh" than "wow". I really hope the M4 feels much more special and packs more of a wow factor.

In your shoes I would be after a genuine sports car like a Cayman S or used GT3. I'm not sure that the M4 wouldn't be just a little bit of 'more of the same' as the M6?

I went and drove an AUDI TTRS the other day. I may end up with one of those. A little weaker than I was expecting but the M6 is a terrible base line to compare it to with 600 hp. TTRS is very tuneable.

I don't think I drive well enough to fully enjoy or handle a GT3. I had a mini JCW coupe and it was a blast. I should have kept it. A great little pocket rocket that you can wind out and enjoy just scooting around town.
