Lots of people have had this done, it's not a difficult job if your competent with a spanner. Depends what engine you have as to wether it has a ege stat, m57 has one but n57 does not I believe

Ok thanks, mine is a 57 plate. I have no idea if its a M or N so will try and look into.

Fit Egr thermostat yourself but be careful of bolts one of mine snapped.

Not really relevant to the OP now that Ive re-read the thread (M57) but I'll add it anyway for future reference.

N57 engine on my 330D does not have an EGR stat, only main engine stat in a housing which is part of the belt driven water pump.

B11.51.7.806.975 gasket £13.17 + VAT

Have not found anyone who has changed the stat on a N57 yet though. Supposed to be easy but its not in any manuals you can buy so dont know any torque settings etc. Just use common sense I guess.

M57 then I believe, I also tried to change the eye stat. My coolant temp was about 80-83c changed eye stat made 1-2c difference main stat brought it up to 90-92c as it should be

Ok thanks Dan, mine tops out at 70c at the mo, and thats on a long enough run to get it upto to running temp. Time for a change.

Definatly too low that, will be better on fuel and the Dpf should regen easier. Where abouts are you?

just got mine done. egr and main stat from BMW dealer £110. independent garage to fit them £80 inc coolant. worth doing though. mine was sitting around 75-80 now goes straight to 90-92. that's a 08 330d

I had both mine done at PMW in Chelmsford, can't remember the exact price but it was very reasonable....

I had both mine done 2 weeks ago (335d) but embarrassed to say how much as looking at what other people paid, I was well and truly ripped off !!
