Remove exhaust filter?

Can you remove the diesel particle filter from the exhaust, as my warning light is on, but they are soooo expensive?? Didn't know if you could replace it with straight exhaust section?..

It can be done in UK/EU, but you need a tune for the DDE (ECU) to properly and safely operate after doing so. Check the diesel subforum, and http://www.ecotune-scotland.co.uk/

Yes, you can replace it with a straight section, but it is now a MOT fail.

There is an argument as to whether or not you could get away with opening up the DPF, remove the innards, and then weld it back up. But if the tester spots it, again it's an immediate fail.

hmmm sounds a bit risky... can anyone recommend a cheap or easy way to solve my problem? I really don't have £1000 quid + the rest spare for a new dpf!!
