Burning Smells on WOT
Lately when I go WOT, immediately I get a burning smell, which then dissipates a few moments later... It doesn't seem to happen any other time, even 'spirited driving' doesn't seem to cause it... Any ideas?

Does this happen only on sudden transitions to WOT? Might be worth checking the aux belt on the front of the engine - early 335i had issues with the left-hand engine mount allowing too much twist, letting the bottom pulley collide with the subframe and rubbing the belt under sudden load. Doesn't sound hugely likely, though...

I keep reading about plastic bags stuck to exhausts...! Surely if that was the case though it'd be constant.
Actually it does only happen on sudden transitions to WOT... I'll check out the aux belt but being a 2008 I'd hope that isn't the case! Could it actually just be unburnt fuel? Strange! |

I'd expect unburnt fuel to smell like, well, fuel, rather than burning!

It can be tricky to spot but I have seen the 6 cyl engines seep at the back left corner where no.6 is and drip onto exhaust creating a dirty patch.Itll never lose a noticeable amount of oil and it never hits the ground/ under tray as it gets burned on the exhaust.
