Black Door Handle Inserts & Fender Trim

Hi everyone,

Just got my F10 recently so taking my time with my mods. Recently did the door handle inserts and fender inserts in black in anticipation of a set of black BBS CH-Rs.

DIY here:http://f10.5post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=934528

What do you think?

Looks good, it's a nice contrast with the gray. The black wheels will really complete the look!

Looks good, but for the life of me, I can't understand why BMW left that trim piece on the fender now that they moved the indicator light to the side view mirror. They should have deleted it all together.

Easy answer, BMW didn't want to pay to change the tooling.

Exactly. The accountants won the argument, not the design dept.

Use a flat/thin nylon pry tool to push in a clip from the front of the trim.

While holding that clip down, use another tool of about the same size and undo two clips on top and bottom of the fender trim.

These two clips are roughly positioned in the middle of the trim piece and as long as you hold the front they will release as soon as you press down(for top piece)/up(for bottom piece) on it.

The fender trim piece is composed of chrome plastic attached to a black assembly behind it. You want to remove the entire assembly, and not just the chrome piece. The clips are also found on the black assembly and are colored in black, so you shouldn't be pushing on anything on the chrome piece.

That's where the sensor was positioned on the earlier models with Dynamic Park Assistant fitted (i.e. automatic parking). Did they shift this sensor on the LCI? If not, then that might be the reason why the fender trim hasn't been removed as the DPA would need to be completely recalibrated.

Very nice, but I like it even better when the fender inserts are painted the same color as the car.

I think it will all come together once the black wheels are mounted.

congrats on the F10 John!!!
you did an amazing job with your E90 and i cant wait to see the finished look of your new beauty! but btw i kind of have to agree that the fender inserts would look better color-matched but nonetheless with the CH-R's your whip is gonna look SICK!

thanks for sharing bro!

I went back and forth when I was deciding on painting the side trims but I ultimately decided to go with a gloss black because I think it'll add a nice touch with the black BBS CH-Rs that I will be mounting soon. It also matches very well with the door handles, the shadowline trim, tinted windows, headlight housing, and the M Performance front grills. The wheels is the final piece that will put it all together.

On the other hand, if I were to have gotten silver wheels or any other color I certainly agree with you guys that color-matched would be a much better choice.
