M235i or 2nd hand Cayman
So let me throw this out there.....
I have a 128 w/sport pk. Like the car enough that I was thinking of holding out for a "new" M235. I want something a little snappier and a bit more sport car but I am so drawn to the Cayman (possibly in my price range 2nd hand though...maybe around '09) and my wife really wants one. I read good things about that car. So which is it......see where I am going with this. It's ok I have tough skin |

Practicallity, sportiness and dd: M235i
Real sportiness(understatement) but not so practical: Cayman Depends on your needs. BTW are we talking about the latest Cayman here? 2009 it is.. Drive both Cheers Robin |

I'd get a 135i before a M235i.
In terms of the Cayman, don't get anything earlier than 2009 as they have the same engine failure fun as the 996.

This is pretty much the same pickle im in except I'm thinkin Vette too (will crush all in a straight line for the price).
I will probably wait for the 2 and give er a spin before I decide though as you should |

I would take the Vette also, I have a good amount of time in the C5 and C6 and recently took a Z51 C7 for a road test, its a beaut! But, the Op asked about his two choices. If I were him I would wait till he gets some seat time in the 2. As you said, Often times a good or bad drive can sway opinions greatly.

The Bimmers will have more opportunity for modding too (cost effectively anyways) and you don't look like a mid life crisis old guy ;p |

C7 is the first one that actually has me interested. The rest have been too much of a junker inside and crap to drive.

If it were the new Cayman, then that would be my choice. If not, the M235i is good enough.

I would guess there is something to be said for both of course. Price on both depends on your budget...new costs vs. used costs and what I would think--unless its a fully sorted 09--some new costs in issues that will arise.
Second, as before, you both drive them both. Thankfully my dear wife is a Bimmerhead and is urging me on for the M235...--and I always warn her not to run off with a Porsche driver who might be overweight--but there IS something to be said for pleasing your wife's desires on this one...if momma ain't happy then no one's happy syndrome. BUT the drive and cost comparisons will be main bearings on this "motor" choice. Personally??? Am glad I am not in your dilema....LOL |

It depends on what you want really.
If you're looking for a DD, I would get the M235i. If this is a second car, I would go for a Cayman S, maybe a used Carrera S too, but a bit pricier. Also, M235i will come with free maintenance and warranty. So you have piece of mind. The Porsche will cost you more than the asking price because of maintenance. C7 corvette is nice and by far the most appealing corvette to date. That's certainly not a bad option either, although not my cup of tea. Drive them all and see what you like. Dealers should be getting M235i demo cars by the end of next month, so you'll have the opportunity to see how it drives. |

I really don't understand how you can make such a statement, when you haven't driven a 235 and the car isn't even available yet.

Yea....good point about the happy wife. The cayman looks to be between 30-35k but that would be a lot of bank out of the shoot since it is used. The other issue is getting it set up with a hitch since I ride bikes more than i drive. The M235 would be more in the long run, less up front and i could trade in my 128 at the dealer, no maintenance costs and probably have a hitch design available by the time I get around to getting one.
I like the way it looks too...but my wife has a thing for Porsches and it more fits her demeaner I have a little while till the dust clears on the 2 series release to weigh a decision |

HAHAHA, nice... sounds like someone has 2 series envy.
For whatever its worth, your 135is will still be relevant when the new series comes out. I have a good friend that drives a 2011 135i - she likes it a lot. She thinks the exterior is cute and the handling is decent. I think when her lease comes up, she wants a M235i (previous typo on my part on 2011 135is...should be just 13i) Last edited by YellowMellow; 01-12-2014 at 09:47 PM.. |

I have zero 2er envy. I actually hurried to order one of the last 135is before production ended so wouldn't have to buy a 235. My whole purpose was to make sure I got a 1er and not a 2er. glad I did too! |
