Another update on 2015 LCI CLS63 a-AMG

Exterior styling looks gorgeous
- Bmw M style side vents
- Larger front intakes
- Sexy CLA style grille
- more muscular rear bumper

Interior enhancements
- Larger floating Nav screen in the new CLS.
- Possibly HUD since MB is offering that on the upcoming C Class so I have to believe the CLS LCI will have it.
- However unfortunately still same crappy instrument cluster but you can live with that if they have HUD
- not seeing the touch interface, and the radio controls are the same complex ones from 2012. I'm hoping this doesn't mean they forego the new S class Nav. The large screen should support the S class Nav.

Engineering
Likely same as 2014
- great steering
- awesome sound thanks to Eisenmann from the factory
- 3.5 second 0-60 from its 585hp AWD powertrain
- not so great single clutch MCT

The 2015 CLS63 is looking like a very good alternative.

Major upgrade from the previous year. I couldn't stand that 2 inch nav screen, LOL. Still no DCT, but definitely and upgrade from MB.

Yeah this is a car that belongs in this decade. Took MB a while to catch up, but its welcomed. I'll check it out once they announce it. I hope they also offer the HUD they are introducing on the C and S class cars this summer.

Never understood why MB never offered HUD

As well as screen, they'll need to update OS, as current idrive is far better than COMAND online on non-S Class MBs. Otherwise, can't see you liking it...

Also needed on Porsche...

Will be interesting to see if MB can do HUD better than BMW (haven't seen on new S-Class yet (no intention to buy one)).

The car hasnt changed all too much since the W218 came out as a 2012 model (visually) but it does have some CLA accents to it. I loved the look of my 2012 but I just couldnt get past the handling with airmatic in the rear.

But boy it does look good.

While the MCT is not a true DCT it can easily handle the heavier tq loads that DCT's cant. I tune all my cars (that had the M157 engine) and the tq reaches the high 600's at the wheels. Its a very very strong tranny but just not as fast of course.

I doubt it. Mercedes to me strikes me as a company that struggles with user interfaces. They need to go hire some anthropogists to understand drivers better.

I mean the placement of the turn signal is terrible for most people who keep their hands in a ten and two position. The cruise control stick is also poorly placed. The fact that they have wiper controls on the same stalk as the turn signal is also assinine. As a shareholder I demand they fire whoever made these decisions.

So I expect their HUD usability, layout and feature set to also show a blatant disregard for human beings.

I agree very much with this cruise control and turn signal issue ! I noticed that on my first benz in 1997 and the issue continues

Not liking those wraparound taillights. They seem overdone to me. To my eye it makes the back of the car look like the front. Not as subtle and clean as the M5's IMO.

Not to mention the front end which looks like a dodge ram pickup. This exaggerated, in-your-face styling doesn't do it for me at all.

Don't forget foot operated parking brake with release under the light switch (knee area) - in manual form it becomes intuitive after some time (bit longer if you have other cars) and in some respects adds character/nostalgic feeling of MBs past (plus the safety aspects), but when moving to electronic version why put the button where the manual release used to be rather than on the centre console like everyone else?

I actual still prefer the styling of the 1st gen CLS, crisp lines - 2nd gen hasn't dated the previous gen too much yet.

I can see that - but the big schnozz unfortunately reminds me more of this:

Maybe it's the camo - might look better when it comes off. I do like the looks in general of late model benzes.
