What are this board's thoughts on the RS7?

I know many have gone over to 911s but what about the RS7?
Perhaps especially with respect to being able to put all the power down vs the F10?

Indirect answer, but if xdrive were an option on the F10, I definitely would have selected it.

The clueless on this board will go this route:
If it's faster than the M5, then they'll say the M5 interior is better, then up next is the nav screen size, then tranny.

In no order. That's why I have stayed away for a few weeks now. Too much insecurity around here.

I think it's a really nice car in it's own respect. The sport seats are hot!. I just prefer RWD.

The only thing that is better about the RS7 is the AWD and the associated 0-60 time.

In every other dimension the M5 is better:
- power
- handling
- gearbox
- feeling and sense of connectedness
- technology
- finish of interior
- availability of full leather
- looks

The rear angled, squished, rectangled dimensions of where the abruptly sloped roof meets the trunk/rear bumper is butt ugly. I wish the RS6 was a US option.

Agreed and you can add boot space the RS7 has none.

Why don't you get a Ford GT500 supersnake. That has plenty of the only thing that matters from what you are saying?

You have crystallized my thoughts! If Audi had decided to make an RS6 sedan and brought it to the US, I would be completely torn.

I like the way it looks - it has grown on me. I wouldn't pick it over the M5 as I strongly prefer the M's drivetrain, and at a lower price point.

The body style doesn't do it for me. If there's RS6 avant available, then it's a different story.

I've compared them. My problem was that when I sat in an RS7, there wasn't enough room in the back seat for a 6 ft adult without having your head pressed against the roof. It was like being in an M6.

M5 is clearly more comfortable in the back.

Also, with respect to putting power down, the high power AWD cars are all going to toast the M5 in 0-60. The reason is simple: nobody ever does stoplight to stoplight using launch control and with an AWD car, you just mash the gas pedal and you've got full power. With the M5 you either have wheelspin or ECU cutting power. I've test driven an RS7, an S8, and an E63 and they'd all cream an M5 in 0-60.

Here's my unscientific opinion. The RS7 looks much better on paper than it does in the garage. Lots of specs to like but I'd rather own, drive and live with my M5.

How did you like the way the RS7 drove as compared to the M5?

My one issue with the F10 is the differential. On one hand it makes it a serious drivers car - finding that precise amount of throttle and wheel - but on the other I wonder if I'd be faster around a closed course in an RS7.

When I went to the 1 Day M school earlier this year many of the instructors were remarking that the E60 M5 never spun in MDM but the F10 does with some frequency.

I haven't driven a comp pack so I don't know if the MDM was altered in this way.

The RS7 looks like a dog squatting. I just don't care for its looks.

Well where I live (in the USA) racing another car stoplight to stoplight is a criminal offense with up to 12 months suspended license and sometimes a jail term. So it's not something I do and not one of my purchasing criteria.

However having a car which deliver a the kind of luxury and tech you expect at $100k+ is one of my criteria and the RS7 and E63 fail miserably at that.

What I find ridiculous about this debate is that by the same criteria people who want an RS7 instead of an M5 should also prefer Porsche 911 over the GT1000 or a Vette ZR1. But very few on this board would make that choice. They pretend the Audi is refined because it is German, but the RS7, finishes, materials and tech are no better than Ford or GM.

Rubs is at least consistent - I have no doubt he would take a ZR1 over a 911 C4S even a GTS.

Yes - but it's a good thing. If you're not in the mood to hoon about, don't use MDM. It's very different than it was in the E60. In the E60, you had to turn the nannies off entirely to kick out the the tail -- in the F10, MDM lets you have quite a bit more fun.

This is the main reason I prefer RWD even though it's less practical on the whole.

I'm not sure I can agree that it's a good thing. I think many of us would like MDM to be a closed course mode which protects against a spin (and possibly wrecking your car). Regular mode does protect against spinning but it's way too intrusive for a closed course. MDM used to be a great middle ground, but I'm not so sure it is in this generation.
