335Is part question

I have a 2011 335Is. There is a small flap of rubber in front of the front wheels. Not sure of its function but one ripped and fell off. It is not a separate piece but I can not tell if it is part of the front lip or the chassis. Does anyone know what it is and how I can replace it? Or I can just tear off the other one

Not sure if I see it here but look around. You may find it in another section.

If I'm not mistaken that part is just there to prevent the bumper from getting scratched since the car is low. I don't think it's an issue if it comes off.

It's supposed to be there, it's either for not scraping like Samaster said or I think it has something to do with lowering the wind noise. One of mine tore off when I was auto crossing last and I haven't noticed anything different at all so I would bet if you took them off since you don't like the way it looks or something then I would bet it's okay to remove them.

Go to Realoem.com
Put the last 7 digits of your VIN where it says Serial.

Look up your part# and find it on eBay.

I believe the part you are looking for is the front fender liner.

This took me too long to confirm so glad to save someone else the trouble (recently replaced on of my 2 when an animal in the road hit it).

Deflector Lip Left: 51757185797
Deflector Lip Right: 51757185798

This is on a part diagram nowhere near where you'd expect and it's difficult to place it's location, but these are in fact the deflectors.

Just to confirm, these are the parts you're referring to, correct?

It's my understanding it's actively a part of air direction under the wheel housing and around the two heat exchangers which radiate out into the wheel housings.

I didn't take it to speeds that would confirm this when my one was detached, but in terms of fluid dynamics (of air, in this case), I couldn't certainly understand that being the case at 130+mph.

Has anyone confirmed that is the correct Part? I was looking at the car the other day and it seems like it's part of the front side of the liner.

The part numbers cited here are incorrect - if you buy those you will be taking them back. The 2011 IS has the BMW designated "M-Aero" kit and is a special order. I have yet to see an IPB (Illustrated Parts Breakdown) detailing the M-Aero kit. The deflectors are not two separate parts but one part. The deflectors are part of the underliner that protects the bottom of the engine. It is one piece not two separate pieces. They do deflect air. I crawled under the car and tore my remaining one off and just had that underliner replaced along with the right and left underfelt liners after hitting debris on the freeway. Should have and post the part number when I get the invoice this week.

Ok - I confirmed that is the part. It is sandwiched between the protective and something else. That is the P/N though so I stand corrected. Will post pictures of the actual part. Just had mu underside replaced do to road debris and these are what they ordered.

It is part of the front fender liner. $65-$85 at getbmw. Easy to replace; I just parked on the peak of my slanted driveway, remove around 15 screws, and slide it out - no need to remove the tire or lifting the car. On the "is" the rubber deflector is molded into the fender liner. On the other models the deflector was a separate part that cost $9.

Can you post pictures a part numbers? Not part of the actual fender liner. The "Pressure Lip Seals" are $6.00 each. See below:

Just had mine replaced and I thought kind of same thing until they pulled it off. I swore it was looking at it but...was wrong. I even made BMW check it over and over thinking they gave me the wrong part. Someone posted the part numbers above which I said were incorrect as I had the parts but, after looking, thought they were wrong so I stand corrected.

The nomenclature is:

Manufacturer BMW
Categories Body and Trim > Interior equipment, lower; Body and Trim > Mounting parts, engine compartment

Pressure lip seal, front left
335is Coupe. Required: 1
Stock Code 51627136525
http://parts.bmwofsouthatlanta.com/p...627136525.html

Pressure lip seal, front right
335is Coupe. Required: 1
Stock Code 51627136526
http://parts.bmwofsouthatlanta.com/p...627136526.html

And here is the IPB (Illustrated Parts Breakdown) showing it - #14 - saying it is part of the Wheel Arch Trim Assembly and when installed fits right in there. Mine are on and these is what they are.

Now another 335is part question...in the right front wheel well, the liner is a panel behind which is the oil cooler. On my car this panel is non-vented and I was just told that this is correct and stock from BMW. Do any other 335is drivers have different? This thing is totally closed. I am wondering if I drill holes in it for more ventilation if this will mess up some engineer's design of pressure flow around the thing? If everyone else's IS is closed off then I guess I am up in arms about nothing.

The deflectors in front of the wheels are there for underbody aerodynamics, specifically to reduce drag. Nothing to do with protection of the fender or anything like that.

Probably. I wouldn't mess with it. I don't know anything about the part you mean, and don't have a good idea what you're talking about, but it's definitely true that adding holes through the liner to the airflow under the car will significantly alter airflow in the area, for better or worse.

I should have posted this pic as it is hard to visualize. The panel is on the right front wheel well liner and held there with four screws. Taking it off you can see the oil cooler. Left side has the vent as that is where the aux radiator is- Right side is totally closed (where the oil cooler is). The thought was, should I vent it by drilling holes in the plastic and see if I get my oil temp to stay cooler (not having any problems now just wondering if I can drop the temp more). I might just remove it for a drive and see if not having it on jacks with the temp. It may not make a difference or it may make one in a bad way; but wanted to know if any other ISes were the same closed panel.

Not so at least on my IS. If you look at the part number you provided it comes back to the same assembly - and the lip in that assembly is identified and replaceable (item #14) - it has been done to my car. You do not need to buy the entire fender liner for this part. Verified with the dealer, bought the parts and they are on the car.

These are the new "deflectors" same part numbers as the pressure lip seal nomenclature above.

Part pictures are below and can be pulled up on the parts links I posted.

Apologies for the grainy underside pic. You can see both are tapered in the parts pic and both are tapered on the car. Again, BMW here in Cali sold them to me for $12.00 a piece - double what Atlanta BMW has them for) to me and they are now on the car...

That's what I suspected. Think the body shop that replaced my fender liner put that on there - though they say they did not. Time to buy one. Thanks for the post!
