2014 Corvette Stingray
I have to share this story with everyone. I was heading to work this morning and a 2014 stingray pulled up next to me at a light. I was looking at the car when the guy rolled down the window and he told me he just picked it up from the dealer. Then he asked if I wanted to run to the next light. I said what the hell there was no traffic. Light turned green and he was gone. He beat me like a rented mule, I caught up to him at the next light and just bowed my head and had nothing to say. I was really impressed with the launch and power of this car. I think I may have found my next project (a few years down the road).

Those are amazing machines. Lower weight than the BMW, and waaaaayy more power. Sure rides like a POS, but I'm sure you have a grin ear to ear every time you get behind the wheel. LOL
Years ago I did something similar with our 2000 Mustang GT. That car had 260HP, and was geared really low out of the hole. I pulled up beside a guy in a C5 (I think that was it). We laid into it. I gave up on gear 1, and gave him the big thumbs up at the lights. |

Everyday I get to see how stunning a vette is. Even a base C6 will knock the hood off of any BMW. I had a 335i before I got by Vette. I thought 335i was really fast. (well it is) After getting it, my c6 SC vette makes that 335i feel like a Corolla. Vettes are essentially made with a Ferrari caliber powertrain with a toys R us interior. with some mods it can be even faster than those cars. My car has 680hp and it is a high 10 sec car. with slicks it could probably edge close to 10 flat. I just wish I became a believer in a vette sooner. nice as BMW is, would not have tinkered with a BMW.
Now c7 is even faster than my C6 stock for stock, 3.9 sec 0-60 and 12 flat in a 1/4 mile machine. Nothing comes even close in a bang for a buck category and now they have a luxurious interior to boot. My plan is drive the snot out of my C6 and pick up a C7 in 5 year or so as a used car. Vettes are known for having car fanatics as owners and most of them are very low miled and babied. Plus the robustness of the powertrain is unbelievable, making the engine last forever with normal driving. engine parts are very thick, stout and simple, making the maintenance of these things very low budget. to me they are simply the best sports car for a average blue collared worker. |

performance wise.. you bet the vette demolishes 3series.. M3, tuned 335i, etc… even a fast 335i lined up next to a vette with both engines revving… vette proves to be the "man's" car… but at HPDEs they seem to be the ones in the wall unfortunately… the 3s are definitely a more ROUNDED vehicle but it all depends on what you're looking for.
i haven't seen a new stingray yet, my wife sent me photo of one while in traffic the other day and they look mean.. if not transformer-ish. serious machines tho and i would definitely not mind having a z06… just doesn't make any sense for me. glad you are humble enough and admitted defeat… seems like a lot of guys would blame their tire pressure, bad gas at last fill-up, or the fact that they had a gym bag in the trunk lol. matt |

I don't know. Turbo'd six cylinders have been very menacing ever since the 70's. Really the pinnacle was in 1986-7, with the LC2 engine in a big old black brick They can be very very fast and reliable as long as built right and modded right.

I'm actually parting out my 335 to get a stingray, but the z51 has a shortage of certain parts and can't be ordered until next year. Power to weight ratio is good and simple mods like long tube headers yields very good gains. It's about 400 lbs less than a 335 which is definitely an advantage and after playing around with turbos at the track there is nothing like the connected feel of NA v8. Every input of the pedal is a direct response from the car unlike a turbo car which is a bit disconnected in terms of power output since turbos lag and boost builds.
I'm monaco335 on corvetteforum if anyone is interested.

Does anyone else think Chevy took too many styling cues from other high end car companies? Say...Ferrari for one. I've never been fond of the Vettes, however they are quite the bang for the buck. A friend has a C6 Z06 and that thing is crazy fast just in stock form, so I have some experience with one. But as far as this new model goes, I think Chevy went off the deep end. The generations before seemed more of a design that Chevy created. This new Stingray appears they didn't want to do much thinking, or create an icon that stands out for them.
