Questions on Servicing a Leased car
So I looked around and didn't really see an answer to what I was thinking. I am unsure of whether or not it is mandatory to service a leased vehicle at the dealer???? I personally can do all the maintenance that is need be. Oil changes shouldn't cost upwards of $100+ and spark plugs replacement even more than that.
So does anyone have experience with this? Also, as of right now, I plan on buying the car when the lease is done or even before that. I just took it over from another member here. I got 3000 miles until the next service, so preferably answers before then from you guys would be very helpful I did find, however, how to reset the service alert on the e90 |

If it's leased, then it's most likely still under warranty and all maintenance is free. Unless the owner somehow blew past the 50k mile mark (which would be $$$ on a lease)...

i believe you only have to come in for that once a year mandatory oil change. if you plan to keep the car after lease matures, and want to do oil change middle of dealer-recommended interval, then it is okay.

Free every 15K miles. If you plan to keep the car after the lease, you may want to follow the oil change interval some here follow. That is, DIY at 7.5K miles and let dealer do it at the 15K interval.

If your car didn't come with the Service/Warranty manual which explains all this stuff, I believe you can get it online at BMWUSA.com - or from a dealer.

You are entitled to one free change a year .
You are entitled to one free change a year .
regardless of the computer recall. If you want to keep the car a long time you should consider the Mike Miller old school schedule . Basically this means changing out the lifetime fluids at intervals more typical of what most cars get. Google Mike Miller BMW. A lot of people on here think that 7500 miles is about the right amount of miles for an oil change . There are a lot of threads on this. Most leasers don't care about maintenance. Also the Turbo should have more maintenance because of the high temperature preasure and extra parts. You should look up walnut blasting of the intake section that should be done between 60 and 90k. Chances are you can use that one year oil change now. Last edited by ctuna; 10-29-2013 at 11:04 AM.. |

Good info there, thank you . I have read about the walnut lasting because of direct injection. I definitely will look up Mike Miller. The previous lessee told me he got the oil change at the dealer at 20k, right now its at 26k. So I'll try the oil change this weekend. Yea I'm very familiar with turbo cars, thanks to my old brick. Just need to know what gaskets here wear out over time or would be smart to change before they wear out. I'll look around. That schedule by Mike Miller is probably what I'm looking for anyways. Didn't see anything in the car manual. I love this car |

version 2 of mike millers schedule is online but he is up to version 4
something I think you have to email him for that. Version 4 has a little more about turbos in it. |

It's not your car in theory, it's theirs, so yes, all work should be done at the dealer. Besides, it's free- do you live that far from one?

You probably can get free oil change.
You probably can get free oil change.
If you are under the initial warranty you are entitled to one free oil change a year regardless of what the computer says. A lot of people don't know this or choose to ignore it . Some dealers just say by the computer but if you read the warranty manual it says once a year oil change or by computer recall. If they say computer recall only wave the warranty manual in front of there face or quote form it. You see a lot of cars that only get the computer recall. Most are blissfully happy to ignore this . Also if you are doing the oil change yourself be forewarned that the electronic dipstick can do some strange stuff. As it does not update right away. It can take 30minutes of driving or longer before it updates so don't over fill only add a little at a time and then drive some more before adding more. When I am at the halfway mark I will add as little a 200ml or .25 quarts and the drive a while and average the reading from maybe three different drives before I add more. Its obsessive I know but there is no excuse for low oil readings. Last edited by ctuna; 10-29-2013 at 03:48 PM.. |

I was under the impression service cost something. Not always are the high-end luxury cars have a promotion with free service.

Of course, not everything is covered- a few years ago, they told me washer fluid wasn't covered- still not sure if that SA was yanking my chain. |

Oil service changes are included for 4 years
Oil service changes are included for 4 years
but you don't get very many of them however you should at least get 4 if you stick by what the warranty says. (once a year at least low or high miles) And you might get more . |
