What piece fell off my car?
Hi Everyone,
I was removing my plastic splash shield from underneath my engine of my 2007 335i yesterday, and an unknown piece fell out. I think it may attach to a hose of some sort, but not 100% sure. Does anyone know what this piece is, and where it belongs? If so is it important, and do I need to replace it with a new one? Here are the pics: http://www.flickr.com/photos/1057731...7636979235374/ |

haven't ever seen anything like that on our cars. Maybe someone that was working on the car dropped it in there at some point. otherwise you could look through realoem.com and try to find something similar.

That's not a BMW nor E90 part. I'd say somehow it got captured by your car, maybe you hit it with the tire and it shot into the wheelwell and fell into the belly pan. That part looks like it had been on the road for a while.

It looks like some sort of stopper. I'm betting that black handle piece pivots down and is supposed to smash the metal discs into the rubber stopper. Doesn't look like an engine part.

It does look like some sort of stopper. Are you the original owner? Perhaps someone used that to plug a hose while doing a repair and dropped it. I know that there is a 10mm socket under my ECU right now! It happens!

I've owned the car now for 4 years. I actually confirmed it definitely came from the car, and I can see that there was a piece of rubber that it was broken from(if you look at the pictures you can see a piece of rubber) It was somehow connected to a hose at the bottom of the engine bay..I know this probably doesnt help you guys much. I will let you know when I post pics of where I am almost sure where it came from. For now Im going to search online for BMW OEM parts...
