Drive off assist woes

I wish there was a way to disable drive off assist.
(I did see this thread by the way http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=13060)
My complaint is that I cannot come to a smooth stop on level ground! On regular brakes, (on any car) just as you come to a stop you can gently lift your foot off the brake to release the pressure on the pads and the car settles down to a full stop with no lurch - just no perceptible feeling other than you're not moving anymore. I prided myself in stopping very smoothly in my 528i and 325e in the past.
But with the 330i every freaking stop is a lurching stop unless I really really feather the brake and even then it's not consistent. Dealer says the brakes are "supposed to work like that" and there's nothing wrong. New front brakes recently did not help.
So I guess the question is - are they all that way or do I just have one with a more aggressive adjustment on the "feature"? Do newer models have this implemented better?
Thanks for reading!

Put the transmission in neutral (center the stick). Hill Start Assist is disabled with the transmission in neutral.

Something is wrong with your car. The only time I feel the hill hold assist is when the vehicle is on an incline and I let off the brakes with no other action (what its supposed to do). You shouldn't feel it coming to a stop.

I have the same problem. I thought it was something in the transmission when I first got the car, but after reading I see a lot of ppl have this issue.

Still no definitive answer as to what it is really.

It works fine on an incline. Problem is on level ground, no way to stop smoothly without a final lurch. thanks.

Ah! Good! I was afraid it was only me. I'll just have to test drive some other newer bmws to see if it's a common problem I guess. thanks!

Umm...I though hill start assist was only on manuals. Perhaps I am wrong.

I've not noticed this issue.

I usually brake down to "almost stopped" and then just let the car roll the last foot or two stopping on it's own. Takes some practice but you won't make any smoother stops.

If it is on an incline the car will immediately start rolling back, at which time I touch the brake to hold the car and activate the assist. If the car does not start rolling then I don't need my foot on the brake anyway (unless I want the brake lights on if I'm concerned about closing traffic, but that is another discussion....).
