Low coolant light?

I got in my 2009 328i late this afternoon to head home and the low coolant light came on. I didn't have the chance to get my hands on some antifreeze, but I had stopped for a few minutes to get a haircut and when I started the car up again, the warning didn't show up again. Is this anything to be worried about? Why didn't the light come back on. I bought the car used back in February 2012 and haven't had the warning come on since I bought it until today. Is it just a matter of it being so long since it was topped off? I read that our systems really shouldn't loose any coolant unless they are leaking.

Thanks

Happened to my Z4 when I was parked on an incline. Coolant level was fine.

The water is going to evaporate one way or another. If your car is overheating it will boil out. I would get the temp display up and watch the temp. Just top up with some distilled and keep an eye on it. It could have been triggered from going around a corner and that dropped it a little if it was already low.

Check your coolant level when cold. Add coolant if needed. Is normal from time to time in which water evaporates, usually when hot weather.

Not trying to be an ass, but why not just open the hood and take the coolant cap off and check instead of making a thread? The car said its low on coolant, so check it. Its pretty simple when you take the cap off and little red stick pops up. Fill it until the stick has floated all the way to the top and you're done.

Well like I said, having started the car 3 times after in a few hours and driving 15 miles, it never came back on. Plus I have to wait till tomorrow for it to cool down to check it and its my DD.
