F34 Vs F10 M-Sport RWD?

Can anyone provide insight on handling/steering of the RWD F10 w/ M-Sport suspension against F34 xDrive w/ Adaptive M?

As my order gets closer to production (still not scheduled), I've been contemplating the prospect of changing it to a M-Sport RWD F10. The AWD aspect of the F34 (added weight), along with the vastly inferior interior quality compared to F10, is bugging me. A similar-spec F10 would cost $2-3K more (possibly less considering 5ers get higher incentives) than my F34 order. The 535i RWD is just 80lbs heavier than the F34 335ix, and has a more rear-biased weight distribution. The problem is, I've only been able to test-drive xDrive F10s, and found them to be boats in the way they drive. Every dealer within 100 miles seems to think this part of the country gets blizzards constantly and only has xDrive F10s on the lot, so it's really tough to test-drive a F10 with M-Sport suspension.

IMO the F10 feels titanic AWD or not. Would not purchase. We really wanted to like the 550 we drove because it checked all our boxes on paper but IMO the X5 drives better than the F10 with the same powertrain, and the RWD cars arent much better

Thanks Richbot! This helps puts my mind at ease with the GT. Problem is that I really want to like the F10...They are nearly perfect aesthetically, but as soon as I get in and turn the wheel its good looks are for naught. Sounds like RWD isn't going to change that.

It won't bro unfortunately. I was very underwhelmed by the F10.

F10 535i RWD: 5181 lbs
F34 335i xDrive: 4010 lbs

And it feels. I drove the 535i F10 for 1 month. I also love the overall design and interior. I didn't dislike how it drives, but it is a boat. The F34 feels worlds lighter and nimbler in comparison.

Not apples to apples weight comparison there: One is unladen base curb (GT) and one is gross (535i). F10 535i base curb weight is 4090 lbs. I agree the F34 feels much lighter and nimbler than the F10s (albeit they were ~200lbs heavier xDrives) I've driven, but my guess is it has as much or more to do with better steering feel and the more lively F30 chassis the GT stems from than weight difference.

Is that true? I guess it would make more sense. I was surprised by the weight difference. But why does BMW list different measurements for F10 and F34 on their website?

It's a typo. 535xi is closer to 4200. Notably about 200 lbs heavier than comparable Audi or Cadillac.

My opinion on why the F10 drives like a house compared to F34 is that it's an evolution of the F01 7-series while the F34 is just a stretched F30 with a hatchback. Hard to make a car drive smaller when it's fighting an uphill battle against platform sharing (and platform sharing is the only way BMW can survive in today's market). F10 feels very refined which is unsurprising when considered in that light. But I loved the E60 and can't forgive the huge step backwards in driving dynamics. Look at the test results for E60 535 vs F10 535 and the E60 trounces it, and the E60 did not have the excellent 8AT. Inexcusable for a car to gain so much weight in today's climate. Hopefully next generation will fix, the New X5, M3/4 and 2-series look promising on paper, though F30 328 was lighter on paper too and turned out to be heavier than E90 with same equipment

Every other spec on the bmwusa site is either listed with Unladen or Curb Weight. I don't know why they use Gross Weight for the F10, but obviously the F10 doesn't weigh 800 lbs more than a F01...

Don't you think that there are too many F10 on worldwide roads? I think that F34 is unusal car...

I've already driven F10 for many times, and it depence how you like to use the car. F34 is always, also on the sport mode very SOFT - I don't know how it will go through the tight corner, but I am sure that F10 will be better with this.

RWD is always more fun for sure:-) but anyway I would stay with F34.
