Dealer says my car was incinerated

I am not making this up but I know my credibility is questionable as I am a newcomer to the forum. I ordered a new e91 in August and it was supposed to be ready for pickup in the next few days. The Owners Circle website shows it at the VPC right now. I got a call from the dealer today telling me the truck carrying my car burned to the ground today.

Is there anyone out there that might have been in a similar situation? Do you think I am entitled to car service until the new one arrives (I had extended my lease on my current BMW)? Is there any way to verify that the car wasn't sold from underneath me?

Wow, I'm sorry to hear that. If you have the VIN # I'm sure there would be a way to see if they sold it from underneath you.

The owners circle site shows the VIN iirc. I'd call BMWNA just to check that he didn't sell it on the DL. If he did then you can bitch him out to BMWNA.

I wouldn't imagine ANY dealership would sell an ordered customer car out from under a customer. Makes no sense.

We've seen BMW sink in the channel, so bursting into flames seems entirely likely...

Didn't know "charcoal grey" was a new color option...

yeah, that was a bad one

The charcoal comment is funny, I have to admit. What sucks is that I had options that no one seems to order, on top of it being an e91, and an xi. According to other dealers I spoke to today, there aren't matches on any local lots, and so I fear it's likely to be another two month wait.

I do feel like I am entitled to a charred steering wheel, at a minimum.

A few people have posted that their cars were on this truck. So there are probably at least a dozen or so people in this situation.

I don´t think you are entitled to "car service" (although I´m not sure what "car service actually is) but you certainly should be entitled to getting an additional lease extension. The car that burnt up wasn´t yours yet and the sale had yet to be consumated.

I'd guess if you wanted to be sure. You can contact the trucking company or the dealership and get a police report of the melt-down. There's gotta a be report on file somewhere. You might even be able to find a news article online somewhere. I'm assuming the truck was somewhere between Oxnard and N. CA.

I haven't been able to find any posts about this situation; please point me to those threads. I also would be suprised if a car transporter was loaded with 12 customer-ordered cars, vs a higher mix of dealer-ordered and spec'd vehicles. My back-of-the-envelope math tells me that there probably aren't many people in this situation.
