Appointment Set to Drive M4

I received a call from my dealership ( I do have a great relationship with them, unlike many others that don't) and they are telling me that BMW is holding all new M4 at the port and will be releasing them at the same time the first week of October. They are also telling me that I am the first to have a scheduled appointment to drive one? I thought the car will not be really seen and discussed (with all specifications) until Detroit in October?

I think their information is incorrect on the timing.

I think they are confusing the 4 Series for the M4. There are definitely no production M4s at any port.

And Detroit is in January.

Yeah very unlikely your dealer is talking about the M4. If they confuse their own models, I'd make a run to another dealership

My dealer said yesterday that he'd lend me a 4 series when he gets them in October so i can try it out for size in my garage along side my other car. so I'm sure it's just the 4 series, that and the lack of the existence of the M4 at the moment.

Dealerships should try harder to hire more car enthusiasts. This is ridiculous.

OP, phone your dealer back to ask whether whomever will put pen to paper locking in price for next year's M4 using this year's M435i price list.

Yeah the sales guy at my local dealership said they had an M2 on order...At least the M4 has had a concept reveal (which he didn't know about)! I told him he must be thinking of M235i, of which he had also never heard of and quickly amended his comment.

There's nothing worse than an ill-informed dealer. It's embarrassing when you know more than them. Find a dealer that knows his/her stuff and you will see how pleasurable your experience will be.

I don't expect them to know anything. I like to test drive a vehicle. Then if I like it I walk in later with an order with the vehicle configured the way I want it. I find it best if they don't tell me much about the car at all. This has worked well so far.

I just have a rule..If I know more than them, it's on to the next one. That's why I bought my car 600 km away when there were plenty dealers close by lol.

I've had horrible experiences with those dealers, but I'm glad you have not.... yet

Yup I called a dealer 30 miles away, who has better knowledge than my two local dealers, to put a deposit on the new M3. They "corrected"me, saying "No, you mean the M4. It isn't called the M3 anymore." I was ready to hang up when he added "...unless you want the sedan."
