BMW Ordered the Wrong Colour!?!?

Hey All,

We have patientley waiting for the last 3 months for delivery of our new E92 here in Perth Western Australia. Finally this morning we got a call to say the car was ready
But soon got another call saying everything was fine....EXCEPT the car is the wrong colour. They made a Space Grey instead of Barberra Red E92
Now there is no choice and have to wait ANOTHER 3 Months for an 08 build......the local dealer says this is an error which happens around 3-4 times a year
Has anyone else heard of such a sad mistake?????

damn that sucks

you should def ask the dealer for some kind of compensation, like more discount or more options for free

Hot color or not -- if you ordered barbera and got SG, something is wrong. I would not take it even though I like both colors. Re-order with a good incentive or apply the incentive to another BMW

The problem with asking them for a huge discount (MSRP)and taking the SG is that they'll be able to sell it to someone else without much of a problem. You should try asking for a discount in the neighborhood of $1000 and see what they say. Otherwise ask for a bundle of accessories for your BR.

Doesn't your dealer track your car through BMW"s system? When my order went in, BMW sent my dealer a verification of every option including colors which he then went over with me. When it started production, he stayed on top of it to make sure everything was "as ordered". If it happens 3-4 times a year for your dealership, I don't think your deler is doing a very good job verifying and tracking. I hope they do right by you for making you wait through the process again.

The dealer ordered the wrong transmission for me. I got the order confirmation before production mailed to me from the dealer and there was an automatic with paddle shifters which I did not order or want. I called the guy immediatley and he apologized over and over. If I had not paid much attention to it, I would have had to wait for a second car.

I guess he took the hand written order sheet and was not paying attention or just was an idiot who thought he could do it from memory. It's only my second bmw but I won't be using that sales person again.

Everyone should ask for a printout of the order sheet before production. I think this happens alot more than a few times a year

If I were you, I would ask for some sort of compensation and if they refuse then tell them your going to another dealership.

for a mistake of that magnitude -- you should definitely consider re-ordering if that works for you or clearly communicate that you want some sort of compensation for their error.

From the time the original car becomes available for delivery, I would ask the dealer to provide a loaner BMW until the "correct one" arrives. If you have a trade-in, you could let the dealer hold it on the lot so that there is no more risk of an accident before the eventual delivery.

My friend ordered an E92 coupe, sapphire black, coral red and alum trim. When he went to go pick up the car, it has walnut wood! They would not swap out the trim panels and they refused to take anything off that car or a new one if he ordered. He walked out of the dealer in a rage after waiting 4 months for the car. He ended up re-ordering from another dealer. Its a shame, the dealer could have easily ordered the parts and replaced them to make a return customer (he had bought 2 other cars from him) happy. Instead, he burned a bridge.

for the amount of money you people in australia are paying for bmw's, i think they should not make any mistakes period. aren't you paying like $100K US?
ask them to throw in more options with significant discounts. bulletproof windows or something.
