DIY diff bolt replacement?
I'm looking for a diy on this? I can't seem to find one? It looks like the torque specs are:
E92 diff bolt torque Yes, 100NM on all bolts for the rear sub-frame to the body The smaller of the bolts which break on the rear differential are torqued to 100 nm or 74 ft/lbs. The large diff bolt is torqued to 165 nm or 122 ft/lbs. 35 nm or 26 ft/lbs for the nuts on the exhaust bracket. However, what size socket tools PN for bolts etc.? I think one of mine is bad because the right rear kicks like a donkey and want to get all the info before crawling under there. Thanks! Here are the PN'S for the bolts from searching: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...=33&fg=05&hl=4 Mainly I'm looking for what socket size extension etc. are necessary to make it easy. Thanks! |

I believe the diff bolts are just normal 17mm sockets. However, I don't think you can get to the front diff bolts without removing the exhaust. The subframe bolts are E18 if memory is right. They are basically inverted torx. Good luck.

Bolt Sizes
This was posted from another section:
The differential is mounted by 2 18mm bolts from the front and a 21mm nut and bolt on the top drivers side near the corner. You will probably need to remove the exhaust and the heat shielding above the exhaust forward of the differential to access the 2 front mounting bolts. Can anyone confirm? I'm looking for the bolt sizes and torque settings for items 6, 10, 11, 13, 14 below: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...08&hg=33&fg=30 If they are 21mm for back bolt and e18 torx for subframe I need to buy some new sockets! Those part numbers are correct for replacement of the differential bushings only. To complete the job with all new hardware, you'll also need one nut for the rear diff bushing bolt (none are used for the front diff bushing bolts).
Nut: 1 x 33326760380 |
