Finally, I can watch DVDs and drive!

...I meant my passengers now have entertainment.
http://instagram.com/p/cdNZmhub-4/

and:

mirrors open/close at lock/unlock, Sport displays show HP/TQ, TPMS shows actual PSI and temps, A.S.S. remembers last setting at start up, M Performance logo shows up on the cluster and more!

(not worthy of a new thread I know) but thanks Steve33!

There have been talks of another LA/OC meet and there are members with cables and software that usually attend.

I would imagine the video whilst moving might be an issue with law enforcement depending on your location.

FYI, when dealer updates your vehicle software level, you will lose all this coding. So, be prepared to re do it in the future.

Specifically, you push the options button below the iDrive controller, select Additional Options (not display options like you would think), check the Zoom box

Jake and the Neverland Pirates lives in my DVD drive - it's a lifesaver when the kids are done with being in the car

Sorry to bring up the thread from the dead but rather post here rather than make a new thread.

Do DVDs that are burned also work? If so, what type of files work? .avi?.mp4?

Thanks

Embarrassing but ...Tokyo Drift in mine, just happened to be the first one I grabbed out of the stack to test the coding. It's a DVD rip and works just fine. Zoom function is a must and works well. One thing I noticed the other day at the drive through was that I hit the Mode button on the steering wheel to mute the stereo...and then I could hear the audio on the DVD...however the video did not come up. Volume is super low as well and you have to crank it.

Because of the placement of the screen...you HAVE to be watching for cops. The guy that coed my car got a $250 ticket for distracted driving. I keep my finger on the NAV hot button.

DVD is a specific encoding format called MPEG2. If you burn a DVD disk via some PC software from a .avi or .mp4, the software will transcode those files to MPEG2 and then write the MPEG2 files to the disk in a standard DVD layout.

The car will read DVD-/+R disks (don't know about DVD-RW disks), so you should be ok with disks you burn this way.

If you just copy a .avi or .mp4 to a DVD data disk and stuff it into your car, the car probably won't play those.

If it's on a DVD, you can only zoom but it'll cut off a portion of the picture.

If you have a 2014 model with NBT and play a movie via USB with the 16:9 aspect radio, it will be fully widescreen.
