P indicator light on all the time?

Hi guys, wondering if it's normal for the P indicator light on the automatic shifter console to stay on all the time even when the key's out and the car's locked.

Mine stays on for a little while (10-15 mins). It should turn off.

Thanks, guys, I just checked and it did go off. Seems like it takes longer than 15 min. though.

i dunno why either, but it got me in trouble back in the day with our E46. I used to take my moms 330CI out on the town when she'd go to LA, but this was WAY back before i had a license, so i was 15 or so. I only did it 3 times, but on the last time i had just got home about 10 mins before my mom arrived and the damn car was still clicking and clacking and the park indicator light on the center console was still on............yea, she knew what was up. Its years later now........and anyway, yea my e92 does it as well, its just a bmw thing i guess. I dont know what the point is, maybe it stays on as long as the car is still somewhat on even after you remove the key, and then turns off when the car has fully shut down its electronics and ecu and battery flow.

FWIW I've checked mine and the P LED goes off somewhere between 60 - 90 minutes after I shut the car off. If I open a door or the trunk the process starts all over again

Yeah, I don't have an AT, but the "window lock" LED stays on like this, too. When I wash the car, I can hear all sorts of little electronic motors whirring and spinning, so the lights aren't the only things still on. And I have CA, so I make sure to keep the key far from the car when I wash. Oh well. No battery issues for me, so it doesn't bother me.

So what if it's on that long, it's not going to drain your battery. LED's consume very, very, very little power. And unlike incandescent bulbs it will far outlast the life of the car so it's really a non issue.
