How to change the interior lights?

Has anyone changed the interior yellowish lights to LED ones?

It's been done by others. I bought the kit from EAS but haven't installed it. Too lazy to do it myself and don't want a stranger working on the interior!

I have done it. It's trivial. Trickiest part is getting the center overhead light off. But there's a guide somewhere on the internet for taking apart the F10 for lights.

Do I need any special tool? Or just a screwdriver and a lot of care?

It's quiet easy... do a search on LED interior lights in this forum and look at my post, as well as some others. I bought the EAS F10 kit, as well as a trimming kit from EAS.

The BMW info on how to remove the dome light is attached.
Simply remove the plastic trim (outer ring) and use a small screw driver to
pop off the entire assembly.
All other bulbs can be easily replaced by just using a small screw driver and
pop out the lights.
If you had the doors open for a while the bulbs will be HOT , so be careful when
touching them

I've been very pleased with the ECS Tuning LED light kit.

I swapped to LEDs. It really updates the look of the interior. IMHO the car should have come from the factory this way. It's an easy DIY. As others have posted, use the info provided on the forum.

I replaced every bulb except for the front doom. The instructions are for the 5 series but not M5. I just could not remove the clear plastic piece/lense. Are there any better tips how to remove that plastic piece?

Hi Guys,

Just came across this old thread. I just took delivery of a '14 650 coupe and want to do the interior LED upgrade. Curious about one thing, the factory BMW 10 LED accessory has 2 different types of bulbs, 6 of the "wedge" and 4 of the "flat" type. Where are the flat type used? I know the doors/footwell/dome/glovebox are wedge. Don't see where the other type is used

Thanks

Thanks - my 6 series (F13) should be basically the same except for no rear dome and only 2 doors. Curious is there any difference between the 9 chip wedge used for the puddle and the 5 chip used for the footwell/dome? Connector is the same.

Unhappy Beware!

So I got the EAS kit, and I got the trunk, and the door ones taken care of and then started the hardest part, which was the dome lights in the overhead console - Got the part out and all that, and even though the car was switched off, ended up shorting something while changing the bulbs leading to a 4 digit repair cost and a replacement head unit being shipped from Germany. Safe to say having learned the hard way, paid $300 including labor and got BMW to replace them all with the OEM LED kit. Now i'm stuck with an EAS kit that I need to get rid off! Keep in mind, i've changed LED interiors on BMWs and other cars successfully before, I just think the M5 is a little different. In hindsight, maybe disconnect the battery...

Ouch - that really sucks... I recently changed out my lights to LED on my M5 and thought exactly about that. So glad that didnt happen.
