Weird noise from vents when cold

During the first half a mile of driving from a cold engine, when turning on say nearing half of full lock, there's like a feint squeeking noise coming through the vents.

Imagine listening to a tiny mouse being proded over and over again through a long PVC pipe.

Anyone else had this 'problem'? I'm sure it's nothing to worry about but just find it a bit annoying now!

Mine are noisy, think it's probably bearings in the fans gone or something, they also make a 'HURRRRR' noise when on max, but I know it'll be an arse of a job so I think I'm gonna put up with it.

Fan's shaft, top of it, is rusted. Open air filter. You will see the fan on passenger side. Look on top of it. If there is any rust, even little bit, that will be your problem.

If it is, then search forum on the removal of the fan and remove, scrape etc, the rust and lubricate.

Had the same thing happen last summer. Removed, cleaned. Noise never came back. Ton of info online.

Thanks for that! I'll try it when I get a spare half hour or so!

If it is in fact rusty, I would recommend taking the fan motor out (Not hard at all) and doing proper maintenance. Sanding or wire brushing/dremel the rust and applying silicone or similar penetrating lubricant vs wd40.

There are electronics near/around the shaft. Would hate to get wd40 all over them.

Worsk a treat had same on mine. I would use something like GT86 lubricant for bikes as its better water repellent that wd40 plus dont smell as a bad.

Too one good application of the stuff 10 months ago not a squeez since. You will prob find the spindle inside is fine its just the top part as its so exposed. It just needs to go onto the pin area.

Try the easy method first, then if it comes back do the better fix.
