You are correct. The real solution is replacing the engine mount. Is your car aligned properly? I know BMW is at fault with this issue, but I'm curious if it is more prevalent on cars out of alignment.

There is a groove in the subframe it would appear its been rubbing for some time.
The car currently runs and tracks nice and straight. Although its Been some time since its last alignment How long of a job is replacing the subframe and mount? |

mine went two days ago but it was due to a bolt missing out of the pump don't know if it was never installed from factory or it just rattled loose over time . only problem I had is the belt cut a grove into the front turbo intake pipeing .not all the way through as far as I can tell but I bet this has happened to a lot of people and they never noticed it .

Has anyone thought about shimming all the bolt locations to drop the subframe 1/8-1/4" ? Get a pattern cut out of the bolt hole by making a paper template and then reinstall them with longer screws as necessary. Or like other people have recommended, grind away or notch out under the PS pump pulley. No one has done this? Anyone have pictures of this completely taken out? It would be nice to discuss a non dealer solution with parts , templates , and cost. I personally have not had this issue but I assume everyone will.

think grinding away material off the sub frame is a bad idea.. someone correct me if im wrong .but I think you will loose structural integrity that way . and not sure if lengthening everything would work .

The area of contact is comprised of two 1/4 inch pieces of aluminum formed and welded on top of each other. The top piece is a support patch welded on top of the corner of the subframe where 2 pieces are welded together to make the 90 degree turn. The contact point appears to be 1/16th deep groove rubbed in the aluminum. I plan to remove about 1/8 inch of material in a total area the size I a quarter. The top welded piece is about 3 inch by 4 inch triangle.

Bmw told me it was " due to spiritted driving". They argued that it was my fault and refused to pay anything. Then they tell me its a common problem and the subframe is being redesigned. I said why would Bmw redo a part if its driver error? They ended up paying for the new subframe.

I thought this was a recall issue. Doesn't the dealer cover recalls even if you are out of warranty? I had mine done, and the dealer replaced my entire motor as bits of the belt ended up in the engine valve body. I was under warranty then but I remember the dealer saying there was a recall or something. Maybe I got it wrong.
