Whats the best mod to lower temp
I sit in stop & go traffic a lot, lately my oil temp's starting to hit 250 (the only change I did was switched from 5w-30 to 0w-40 castrol) ... I was thinking adding another oil cooler ... or just should I consider an intercooler ... I dont know pls advise the best mod for extreme stop and go driving

both are good mods but oil cooler or aux water cooler are the ones that will actually keep your engine cooler. FMIC primarily just keeps the intake temps low under long periods of high power demand.

Use 5w40 bmw certified oil.
My aux cooler is helping to lower the temps as fast as possible back to acceptable temps. My oil cooler keeps the oil within preferred range. Get a decent oil cooler if you are going to invest, to my regrets the AR did not do much...

The bms thermostat bypass works well if you have the stock oil cooler and don't want to invest in an upgraded cooler. Also FMIC is a must imo, even with running meth.

Just under 250 is normal operating temp for this particular BMW.
If you are looking to get those temps lower any aftermarket oil cooler and preferably thermostat delete would take care of it. I'm assuming since your asking about adding another oil cooler that you have one already? Stock or aftermarket? |

Your oil temps are normal, and if you are in stop and go traffic oil cooler will not be much help since it needs you to move in order to cool. How many miles on the oil? Old oil heats up much faster too.

Have to disagree...I was stuck in traffic in 111 degree heat and oil never went over 225.

The cheapest alternative (as stated above) is definitely the BMS thermostat delete.
Another option would be the CP-e Intercooler which comes with a extra oil cooler (mounts on top of the FMIC) and it works pretty well. You must have a factory oil cooler to work and its not as good as an AR or ER unit, but it will take temps down about 20 degs. The price for the FMIC is reasonable and is the only FMIC that comes with an external oil cooler.

Mine stays around the same temperature in traffic too with stock oil cooler, but creep up if I push it and have not seen above 250 yet after oil change. With OEM oil it would creep up to 260 with few thousand miles on it and especially when driven harder. For oil I have RLI 5-40HD low ash.
