exhaust flames?

Guys i've seen videos on youtube where our n54 cars, got exhaust flames under heavy acceleration? What causes such things?

Straight pipes will do it. It does on mine anyway

So if i got catless dp's and stock exhaust i wouldn;t get the flames?
