Turner axle back and now car feels sluggish
So had the Turner axle back installed yesterday and now the throttle response seems slower, acceleration feels slower, etc.
I checked the vacuum lines and they are plugged and have no idea where else to look? Anybody else experience this? *BTW sound is awesome but sound isn't worth loss of performance. Last edited by whiteM5; 06-29-2013 at 01:09 PM.. Reason: forgot sound update |

Same here.. Just installed eisennman race axle back. I wonder if it takes the computer time to adjust? Or makes no difference?
It feels like it was faster stock. Lol

Could it be possible that the ECU needs to re-adjust? I'm getting the E-Race axel back installed on Monday and would like to know?

The ECU needs at least 300-500 miles to adjust. U do in fact gain horsepower with the Turner setup.
For my catless downpipes it took 500-1000 miles to adjust.

I got to open my car up in the country roads today and all the power was there. I think it's the drone at low rpm that makes it seem like it's sluggish.

I read somewhere that the active exhaust valve control increases torque at low rpms. Apparently at low rpms, closing the valve on one outlet increases backpressure which increases torque at low rpms until there is enough backpressure then the valve opens.
So by deleting the valves this product and the race exhausts slightly reduce low end torque. however the difference is small enough that most people don't notice.

Guys, it is your exhaust vacuum lines not properly plugged. Ridiculously common problem when people install aftermarket exhausts on the F10. They can't just be crimped or tied off. Go to Auto Zone and get some RTV sealant for $5 then do the following:
1. Locate your lines at the rear of the car near where you mufflers are (likely they have been tucked away by your exhaust installer) 2. Find a "plug" that is a tiny bit larger in diameter than the inside of the lines. A screw will do but a solid plastic or metal plug works best. 3. Coat the plug with RTV and inset the plug inside the lines firmly, MUST be TIGHT. No air can be escaping the lines whatsoever. 4. Coat the top of the plug at end of vacuum line with RTV and let it dry for a couple of hours. Problem will be fixed. Car will run like new. :-) Trust me. I have helped others with this and I know this first hand because it happened to me. :-) Car feels as if it is a non-turbo when they are not plugged properly. In most cars you can simply crimp the lines and tie them off with zip ties. Not so on the F10 turbo motors. There is no ECU resetting or anything computer related. The problem IS the vacuum lines. Many installers don't even try to tie them off. They simply disconnect them from the valves that come standard on the OEM exhaust (look at your old exhaust and you will see them on the sides of each muffler. There are small nipples where the vacuum lines were secured to them before) and since there are no valves on the aftermarket exhaust, they simply tuck them away and you leave with a car that feels like it has lost all torque. Best of luck! Mike |

Coldlist post makes sense. BUT i do believe droning exhausts make the car feel slower at lower rpm. I had the problem on my e60 with Eisenmann race. After going back to a stock system my view is that the race exhaust systems are not well calibrated for low rpm city driving and give you the bogging out sound a lot. Doubt your car is slower. Your just matching your selections to offset drone.

I resealed the vacuum tubes myself to get a tighter seal...it was like a whole different car. Back to new. Night and day. TIP: I would not rely on just the rubber caps- that come with kit. Properly seal the hoses immediately!

Use some window silicon and a screw or nail. You guys are loosing boost. Some aftermarket exhaust don't have the butterfly valves that close and open with stock exhaust. And if you don't plug them after installing new exhaust you will loose power. |

Scuderia and that didn't bother me Now the bad - My M5 feels sluggish now. The installer crimped and zip tied and on the way home I felt it was definitely not pulling close to normal. I left the crimp and zip tie and added a plug and just took out for a drive. Unfortunately it feels the same. I feel like it's a dumb question but I will ask it anyways - is there any chance that the vacuum tube being crimped is hurting my cause? Any help is greatly appreciated. |
