Oil is still cold , nothing is getting cold around here right now
I had to look at the pic a few times to figure out what you were talking about since seeing >100 on the dash is just normal at this point |

Oil is almost 200 deg, that's not a big deal at all. IMO.
Holy crap that's a hot ambient temp. I think we got up to around 115-118 for a day or two last year, and it was somewhat surreal. Maryland's not a cold place in the summer but over 105 is just insane.

It is supposed to be 117 for 4 days in a row starting tomorrow and they are already saying that could increase. I got my 5" VRSF IC installed just in time and I gotta say I am very impressed with it. It seems be be able to handle 115 with no problems for as long of a pull as I will ever be able to do around here without going to jail and even when I do a couple back to back it seems to be keeping up just fine. When I was running the stock IC and stage 1 agressive with 3 gal E85 and 12gal 91 it felt like it was pulling timing when it was over 100 degrees out or so. Now im running stage 1+ agressive and it doesn't seem to be pulling timing at all and pulls much stronger then the other map. I really need to get out and do a couple logs this weekend and see what the real numbers are saying. I like to test stuff at the most extreme ranges and this weekend defiantly qualifies.

Yeah, my car was acting a little funny once the temps started going up. So, I had to cut my E85 a little. I was thinking about running MAP5 for a little while to see if it can adjust to the heat better. Fixed boost at 117 degrees on the freeways is fine. But, it doesn't like the streets with the A/C on as much. Well see how the week goes. I might find it melted in the driveway... :-o

I hope you mean your oil temp was 250 and not your IAT's.

If you want to really freak out, look at your actual IATs and not just your OAT. Your IAT will probably be +20 to +40 above OAT.
On a side note, I have to say the E9x OAT sensor seems to be pretty accurate compared to some older BMWs and other cars that are sometimes 10 or more degrees hotter than actual OAT. Even further aside, does anyone know of a coding mod to swap OAT with IAT in the cluster? Would be cool to be able to switch back and forth. |

For the Turbos, I'm a close friend with the foreman at my nearby dealership which I get my car serviced, instructors of the STEP program based in BMW NA and also the STEP students which I recently had the liberty to chat with, that they strongly advise not to push the turbos when the oil is still cold or not the optimal temp level. As they would wear the turbos pre maturely. They also said that its ok to push once in a while in an emergency or doing a accident avoidance.

200F oil temps are more than fine for spirited driving IMO. Most cars turbo or not run in that range. The N54 is the only engine I know that runs 240F+ in regular operation.

I was going to say...How is 72mph at 3Krpm pushing my car???
I was just driving home on the freeway at 4:17pm. I looked down and saw that it was 115 degree outside. I though to myself, "Hmmm, wonder what my IAT are? I bet the outside case on my JB4 is DEFINIETLY melted by now!!!" |
