cobb accessport

Just wondering, is the cob ap itself considered stage 1, or is the stage one more of an upgrade? I am definitely going to VAC motorsports to buy a cobb ap this week.

Also, with an automatic, in perfect conditions, what kind of 0-60 numbers and quarter mile numbers can you see with just the cobb ap?

check out their site. They list the varying maps/stages and what is required to run each map.

Comes with a bunch of different maps. You just need to select the one that fits your octane / mods and enjoy.

Cobb AP itself is a handheld computer which you plug into your OBDII port with a provided cable and use it to flash your car's ECU. Go to their website and do some reading.

Stage 1 is a map on the COBB AP which has different octane and throttle settings you can choose.

I did read their website, I am just a little confused. I don't plan on doing any other mods, and I always use 93 gas, so what map would be for me?

You can use any of the stage 1 maps, Stage 1 Agressive being the "strongest" with 93 octane.

If you stick with Stage 1 maps ONLY, you don't need any other mods. That means you can't use "Stage 1 +" maps. You'll need a better FMIC for those. There is a map table on their website that tells you which map can be run with which mods.

There is a chart on their site that explains what mods/fuel work with what maps...

I recall my Stage 1 0-60 times were like 4.8 sec when I first got the Cobb with no other mods on my auto xi E90. I've now seen 4.2 sec with Stg 1+ and E85 and several other mods too. Make sure to get the Apex wheels on non-run flats too (Michelin PSS) that Vac sells too. They did a great job for me with my KW coilovers back in 2009. Good luck!

Only 4.8? Isn't that the stock time? I thought with cobb ap you would get low 4's...

It will be faster than stock. Times will vary according to driver, conditions, altitude, etc.

No, it isn't a requirement.

It's always recommended to take it out. Not everyone does.

Cobb is fairly easy to uninstall and reinstall IMO it's not worth the risk if you want to keep your warranty. Although some dealers are more lenient then others.

For maintenance, no, for warranty claims, yes, and there have been times I didn't touch it.

It all depends how good of a relationship you have with your SA and the shop Forman. If you don't, then play it safe.

Couple questions:

What is the difference between stock and linear throttle?

Putting the car back to stock with the AP is untraceable by the dealer?

Thanks!

Stock mapping is more aggressive. Less pedal travel results in more requested power.

Linear throttle mapping is more conservative and, to some people, more predictable.

No-one that has uninstalled their AP before a dealer visit has ever reported that the dealer determined they have had a tune installed much less had any warranty issues.

Stage 1 is a definite upgrade from stock.

I have an upgraded intercooler as well and stage 1+ was an even larger jump. Generally speaking the more supporting mods you have, the more aggressive tunes you can run.

I uninstall my cobb when brining my car in for warranty work.

I saw you asking about 0-60 times as well...I have a PTF custom map for my car/current mods (e92 AT 335xi intake, intercooler, oem run flats) using the AP 0-60 tool, I consistently clocked 3.7-.8 times

Hope this helps

The inter cooler is not frowned upon at the dealer?
