Evaporator for A/C issue.

Hi guys,

Found a post on this but no definitive answer really.

I seem to have white powder coming out of my vents.

Now obviously this is a known problem but does this get worse until it fails or is this just a slight problem?

I'm asking as I have limited warranty on this and means I need to pay a fair walk towards this.

Is it a must change and will get worse?

Thanks in advance, I think I know the answer.

I thought that would be the case.

Looks like it's getting replaced then. Not a little job unfortunately.

Thank you

It is a known problem when the car is fitted with a Denso condenser. There is an official BMW Service note on this. Also see http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?p=7515483

I don't think the condenser fails as such but is is not comfortable driving a quality marque of car {or any car for that matter) whilst being sprayed with aluminium oxide powder

It does get worse and messy. My car had full blown dandruff. Everytime I put the ac on it was like a snow storm and not to mention the metal shavings of aluminium oxide causing me breathing problems! Fortunately there is a TSB and if you are under warranty then you are sorted. It's allegedly a 3 day job as the entire dashboard must come out. Mine was done in 2 days though so it must have been a 2 man job at fast pace.
