Tinting your E90; How Dark did you go?
Going to be start my "cosmetic" mods on my stock e90 soon and first on my list is tint. All my previous cars I went 5 on all back windows and 20 on front,
Im still leaning towards this setup but just want to get a feel for what my Bmw buddies are doing, Also have any of you seen the tint that makes a Purplish reflection on the inside of the vehicle? buddy of mine bought a car months back and had tint on the back windows already and its a sweet nice tint job that on the inside of the car its a slight Purplish reflection not so much straight black look. Even in the Rear view mirror ( I was driving) you can see the purplish tint in the rear window. In all my previous cars ( and my brothers who got tint done at some shop) is the straight black look. The tint shop I always get my cars done in the past is just the regular black tint, what im wondering , are there different types of tint (not just the degree of tint?) because im assuming there is and I WANT THE NICE STUFF..... any sweet tint shops in the norcal area that supply the good stuff? ( bay area, sac or fresno is good im in modesto all 1hr 10min drives ) I will take the drive for the tint. All in all the shop I go to does a good job, ive just never seen other tint with different reflections.... |

lol ANY tint on front windows in illegal in CA, everyone still does it, You just have to have a "reputable" car and you wont get screwed with by cops. If your in the Bucket on 24s with blacked out windows.... well you might get pulled over...
LOL really so everyone is saying that it shouldn't give off a purplish tint???? I thought it was just really nice tint!! guess I'll stick with my shop |

I like a consistant tint all around and I found 5% too dark to see out at night. 15% was my happy medium. Also the windshield tint helps do wonders at keeping the heat down. Make sure to get a non-metalic tint. Ceramic is the best. |

Agreed with everyone that any purple at all = cheap ass tint.
3M is where it's at. Best tint out there and the only brand I ever put on my cars. Here's my E91 with 20% all around (don't really like the front windows lighter than the back windows look you proposed) |

Bought my car and it had 15% all around. It looks cool on alpine white but definitely too dark, specially w/ all black interior. Cops think it's too dark as well. Got pulled over a month after I had it. Paid the fine and just leaving it on. If they stop me again this summer I'll consider putting up 35%. They usually leave 35% alone.

Don't have tint on the bimmer yet. will do that soon. I had 3M 35% tint for 5 years on my previous car (A4) and it was amazing. I will definitely be doing 3M again.

Ceramic all the way. It keeps heat down like 5%. It's more expensive but it's worth it IMHO.
35% up front 20% in the back. Black interior. |

I think this may only be needed on sedans. If you pull the weatherstrip seal in a coupe you should see that it already has felt on the lower portion. Trimming the seal is also an option. I use moleskin in front and have it trimmed in the rear out of necessity. I don't notice any difference at all between the two.
I had to trim it in the back because I use covers for the door trim when my dogs are in back. It slides between the window and seal and will dislodge the moleskin smearing adhesive all over the tint. Oh, I have 35% all the way around. Used 20% on my Camaro, but prefer 35% after having both. |

20% all around. My last car had 13% all around and backing up at night was a PITA.
