Akrapovic Exhaust on F10 M5 Dissapointing

Hi all,

I just recently got the Akra done I have looked at the videos and it sounds nice from video. Unfortunately I am dissapointed with the end result. Paid 8K USD for this system and I am not satisfied at all.

It is very similar to the current Stock exhaust IMO. Throttle response was also similar, for some reason I feel like it is almost exactly like the Stock exhaust.

Very disappointing I would not recommend it to anyone.

I think the Akrapovic is probably a great product, but if you want aggressive sound you will probably have to go for something that isn't legal (at least in Europe). The Akrapovic meets European noise legislation and can't be too aggressive.

I feel you. Sell and swap for Eisenmann Race axle back. Half the cost and a very aggressive tone without drone. Perfection IMO for this car.

Another very appealing option would be to add downpipes to your existing setup. That's the only way you will get a performance gain out of any exhaust, and it will definitely increase the sound.

Good luck!

Turner

I have a suggestion that will also put a few more bills in your pocket.
Sale what u have and give Turner a call. I had my Turner exhaust installed today and I will highly recommend. Some people say you can't hear much from the inside because of sound proofing etc. Ugh I'm sure if thats with the radio cranked up or what but I clearly can tell the difference from the inside windows up. My wife 100% agreed and after about 20 miles no noticeable drone. On cold start up, sick is all I will say. It was mentioned the metal will increase in size once up to temp (tips come out an additional .5inch) and I will agree. Very aggressive sound and throaty.

That is a bummer! Thanks however for making me feel better for ordering the E race!

Sell the Akra. There is someone out there that wants it!

Sorry to hear that... I currently am running the Meisterschaft SUS Race setup with LXR center section, and I promise you will know that you are running an aftermarket system. Sound is monstrous and there is a definite increase in HP and throttle response. I originally ran the E-Sport setup axle back and it didn't do it for me. Personally, I would go E-Race or Meisterschaft/GtHaus if you are looking for volume.

Check out my Youtube Channel (mindlessmark07) and you will find several videos demonstrating differences.

Good Luck!!

Sorry to hear that.... but I have one quick question?

How many Km's (or miles) have you done on it so far?

I had my Akra (for the M6) installed about 3 weeks ago now, and my honest
opinion when it was first installed was.... not good

But everyone kept telling me to let it 'carbon up' abit, and it has made quite a difference. I've done about 500km on it now, and am really happy with it. It's a little quiet in the cabin when compared to outside, but roll a window down and listen to the magic.

Very exotic and I have had people comment nearly daily on the sound.

Maybe sit it out for a few weeks before you make your decision... just a thought.

Good luck,
Scar

Mine got louder with time. It doesn't sound like a race car but it's not obnoxious either, I think it's a good compromise.

I also got another problem with my m5, high speed braking leads to steering wheel vibration. Maybe i need to get new front rotors.

Time

I have had my Akra exhaust on my M6 since it was delivered at the dealership so now about 7 months. I have put 12k miles on it and let me tell you the sound changes quite a bit. Much meaner and louder. Also I cared for quality and weight and it does breath a little better and even quicker revs. Be patient you will come to love it hopefully as much as I do.

I have Akra and I think it's great. It's quieter in the cabin because the exhaust is made very well and the sound is very tight and refined but it's definitely loud if your outside the car. Just have someone you know record you and you will see. I thought the same thing as well because I came from an E race and it was louder in the cabin due to vibrations. Don't judge it from the inside because it's misleading. These cars are well insulated. My buddy records me sometimes without me knowing and when he plays it for me I'm like wow it sounds like that?? Because it's much quieter from inside where I'm hearing it.. and this is casual to sporty driving because once you step on it the magic happens.

I agree with the other Akra owners. Is it the loudest exhaust out there? Nope. Does it sing over 4K RPM and sound exotic? Hell yeah. Does it get better with time? Absolutely.

That's not to say that any of the other exhausts are bad...there are three or four that are sick IMHO. Just choose what you like. If you are not happy, dump it and start over!

Oh, and I can still take my car to a track and drive it if there is a dB limit - no black flag here.

Turner +1. 1/8 the cost. similar performance gains. great sound.

just sayin..... (that being said, the Akra exhaust has the best looking tips IMHO) the good thing is that you can resell that exhaust to about 100 of the guys on here.

I still haven't seen anyone with an Akra on the dyno. I would like to see the gains it makes.

Yep, posted this back in January IIRC. Dynojet, all on the same HW, same tech running the dyno and setting up the car.

Baseline: 535 whp/487 ft-lbs
Akra: 540 whp/485 ft-lbs
Akra + CF delete: 551 whp/501 ft-lbs

All uncorrected values per SAE guidelines. Charts show there being slight improvement throughout the RPM range with just the exhaust, but a lower max tq. number. Not concerned, as with the CF delete the numbers went through the roof. Oh, and the numbers don't really mean anything to me, just wanted to see what each change made in comparison to each other. Not here to compare my car to another.

I'll add...if you want TRUE HP gains, it won't be in the exhaust...it is in removing the CF filters (or installing a high flow intake) and adding either catless or high-flow race cat downpipes - as evidenced in my pull with Dave.
