Oil Level Digital Display

After looking for the Dipstick I consulted the handbook.

Not one.... on my N53.

The digital display shows a half full bar and says OK. Does that mean its half way up the range or is it a picture. The hanbook shows this then a low one.

So in theory 500ml would take to the top.

If it was a dipstick I would just keep nudging 100ml in till I got to the top.

I would not add any oil until the car tells you to add 1 litre, then top up and display will go to full. Sump holds 6.5 litres and won't suffer loss of up to 1 litre. The car will sound an alarm on switching off when 1 litre is required.

It's not a picture so if its showing half on the screen then that's what it would be on the dipstick if it had one. As said though, your not in desperate need of oil with that reading...

Dipstick display between Full and Add 1 litre is 4 increments. Car is normal OK till you reach the Add 1 litre. Display can read 1/2 full at one point and 3/4s at another therefore I wouldn't top up till the Add 1 litre to make sure its not overfilled.

OK its just occasionally I have a Scotland trip which is 550 miles in one day.

And would rather not get an add 1 litre light mid trip.

Will wait till it goes to quarter and add a few 100 mls.

I just keep a litre bottle in the boot and top up when required, 2 min job. I purchase a 4 litre Castrol 0w30 when on offer and use that to top the 1 litre bottle up once topped up, never had a problem of overfilling.

Same here... Bottle in the boot... Two seconds to top up a litre when the bong comes on. Don't top up before, the meter is too variable and you could over fill.
