Easy, clean install V1 on E92...

have hardwired V1s in my last 3 cars.
Wanted to find the least evasive, most visually appealing way to install that would not cause warranty or sunroof problems. I own a M3 E92.

There is nothing new in this install, it is however my research on multiple threads that lead me to what I believe is the cleanest install for our cars.

Do not tap into lights above, many threads have people complaining about their sunroof resetting the V1. There is an easier and less evasive method.

1. Buy a Blendmount: Yes they cost but so does the M3 and you owe it to yourself, and the greatest performance car on earth to not have suction cups as a mount.... :thumbsup2:
http://www.blendmount.com/bmw.html
It will look seamless, OEM and professional.

2. Buy an Bussmann BP/HHH ATM Add-A-Fuse.
You can buy them at any decent auto parts.
Its the mini fuse kind... see picture in install later.

3. Once you install the blendmount (its easy). Run the line supplied with your V1 above the headliner....fits perfectly. No struggling.

4. the hardest part is squeezing the line into the area where the pillar meets the headliner. It fits I know ...I did it...you do NOT need to remove it.

5. Once you are around that area run it down the suede to the glove compartment box.

6. Now once you have run the line down the suede...you will need to move from the liner to the glove compartment/fuse area without being noticed ...like a ninja. There is an area ...see the picture that your line can tuck under and move right into the glove compartment/fuse area.

6. Now that your line from the V1 is in the fuse area. You need to hardwire it to the fuse box. Go get the hardwire that you recieved from V1, clip the fuse portion off. Its unnnecessary because your using a "add a fuse". Now strip the red line a bit, get the add a fuse and cut off the blue quick connection part. Strip the line bit ...now twist the two lines together... Solder them and heatshrink.
Note: you can use the blue quick connect if you dont want to solder..this will work fine. However, I have found that over time this way of connecting two wires can sometimes come loose. Soldering then heatshrinking will not....

7. Pull the 8th fuse (its a 20) take your "add a fuse" plug in the 20A you removed and add a 10A for the V1..then plug the add fuse back in the 8th position..see picture...attach the ground wire...see picture
Tuck the wires away and plug your V1 into the hardwire kit direct area unit...there are two places marked on the unit...ACC and MAIN plug into "MAIN".

Your Valentine will now start up when you start the car....thats it! No line showing, no sunroof not working, no tapping into lines, no removal of anything ....Now go DRIVE FAST...

Been looking for a method that does not involve popping panels- and this seems like its it. Have had my M for over a year now- with no V1. The blendmount looks great- had one on my last car. Great job!

Awesome DIY! I have this same setup but don't have the mounting kit. Seems a little overpriced. This is a much better install for V1 in my opinion. I really don't like the dome light method.

Very clean work. But isn't it pretty obvious to an LEO if you do get stopped?

I have actually never been stopped since I bought one. Probably cause it is a radar detector and it stops me from going fast...when it beeps....

Plus they arent illegal in Texas. So a LEO/PIG cant say anything about it.
It also looks cool up there....I think
As far as I know its only illegal in Virginia and Washington D.C .

This worked like a charm. Total n00b move that I announce only in hope that no one else repeats my mistake:

I only plugged in the 20A into the tap dongle. You need to plug in both the 20A and another fuse into the dongle (has space for two) for it to work.

I thought my V1 was fried because I couldn't get it to work with my hardwire or cigarette lighter. Of course, the #8 fuse controls the cigarette lighter, so obviously it wouldn't work. The instructions already state this but that didnt stop me from scratching my head for half an hour...

BTW, if you have rain sensing wipers then the blendmount will not work. I bought one based on their site, but I have the rain sensing wipers. It doesnt work so on my car and I dont want to send it back because they want to charge me a restocking fee. Maybe someone on here wants it....

When you say the blendmount won't work, do you mean it won't fit behind the mirror? Or do you mean that it'll mess with the rain sensing wipers? PLease explain. Thanks!

I have an E92 and I took a picture of my mirror and sent it to Blendmount in May and they said they didn't have a model that would fit my mirror but "it's in the works"

Been gone awhile, I'm back.

First you have to physically go inside your M3 and look at what kind of stem you have. They have three pictures that you must analyze and see which one resembles your mirror stem. What I picked that worked on my 2011 M3 E92 was the P/N: BV1-2014 model. However, I am unsure if the mirror stems are different between M3s based on year differences, 2 door, 4 door models etc. there is three options so I guess they are ....but I can assure you that mine has rain sensing wipers and it fits with no problem.

Before you buy you gotta check and double check the pics to make sure and call them if your have any questions. Mine was obviously not the other two...but mine may be different from yours!!
