I Successfully removed bird crap etching...

with Meguiar's Scratch X.

I had a pretty nasty crap that probably sat on the car for 6+ hours in the hot sun. When I got home I soaked it with a wet paper towel and got the crap off but it left a nasty mark in the clear coat. Several applications of Meguiar's cleaner wax did absolutely nothing.

That was two weeks ago. I basically was living with that stain which was on the roof just beside the sunroof and drivers door, so I could see it every time I got in the car.

Today I tried a couple of passes with clay and again, did absolutely nothing.

I then got out the Scratch X. Did a few applications and it did not seem to make and difference. After a few more, I could see the stain starting to go away. I hit it a few more times, probably a total of 5 or 6 applications and the stain is completely gone. I then gave it two coats of wax and there is no evidence that it was ever there.

I wish I had taken some before and after pictures.

I have a similar stain on the hood of my black SUV. I'll hit that this weekend and take some before and after pictures.

Finally, an easy way to get rid of that nasty Shat stain....

I guess an more aggressive compound or even extremely fine sand paper would work quicker but why use something that harsh?

Scratch-X works great for this kind of stuff. Glad you were able to take care of it.

It's strange, I can still see a little bit of the stain when the sun hits it but it's not nearly as bad is it was. I will probably try a little more of the Scratch X and see if it gets better.

A medium polish after a clay should take it off in one application. Then just add your sealant (if you use any) and wax, and your done. I do "spot polishing" pretty often in this matter when my wife gets bird crap on my e46.

Whatever works well for you though, and whatever you're comfortable with is really the key.

I use Griot's Speed Shine to throughly rehydrate the bird crap for a minute or so then take a 100% cotten towel (never never use paper) to gently lift it off. I follow up with some cleaner wax and that usually does the trick. Keep a good base coat of wax on the car and remove bird crap as soon as possible.

true dat!.. one drunken night last week i noticed a big pile of dried up bird poop sitting on the roof on the driver's side. in haste (being an intoxicated dumb ass) i grabbed some paper towels from my trunk and wiped that crap off with a couple squirt of my own spit. i was all proud of myself until the morning after...

the car hasnt been waxed in a very very long time so you can imagine the damage. so yesterday i got me a zaino kit and some scratch-x, so i got some work to do this weekend..

I need to keep this stuff in my trunk. My black E90 seems to be a target at work, no matter where I park it!
