VANOS failure and N20

hello;

What is VANOS failure and its symptoms? Should we N20'ers be concerned? as I understand these failures may not give off codes so even if you bring them to the dealer their hands are tied?

They can replace it.. symptoms involve rattle when starting engine & lag at low rpm range.. but why worry on f30.. we are good for least 4 yrs

I thought the problem occurred only on N54's but one previous owner said that it is not restricted to N54 only and perhaps all these sudden drive train malfunctions on the N20 might be related.

just wondering in case it happens.

There's been reports on many other models.. just google it up.. and I wouldn't think there any correlation between drivetrain and vanos..
