Back in the market havering sold my 325i m sport a while back.

Thinking about another Beemer, but also toying with the idea of a Golf gti or even the gt tsi which looks close on performance.

Any forum members have experiences if these cars and would like to share their opinions?

I just find that VWs are very overpriced for what they are.

I had a Mk 5 Golf GTi Edition 30 DSG which was 6.5 to 60 ... and I loved it.

One snag ... FWD as opposed to RWD. A big problem as far as I am concerned as I love RWD.

Build - not as good as BMW but still a league above the likes of Ford, etc.

I would have thought the 325 was nicer but if you want a hatch ?

We have a E92 and a golf Gti ed30 and now a Golf R , they are good cars and dare I say it lose less money than BMWs

I prefer Audi's, same thing but nicer inside. Have a look at the A3s if your into that sort of thing, you also have the option of quattro which actually is very good if your not a to bothered about controlled drifting!

I have just come from a mk5 r32 which I had for 3 years, also owned 3 golf gti's and a gttdi. All great cars IMO, I now have a e90 325i, and have alot of love for it ATM, personaly think th BMW build quality is slightly better, although vw is pretty good. For me to keep a car 3 years being the says alot because I get bored very quick, but I think I might well own the Beemer for 3 years which says I think its a sweet car to. Hope this helps, both good cars in their own rights.

needed the money at the time. regret it to be honest as i can't find another car with the spec, mileage and history mine had.

have been looking at another e90, maybe LCi this time or even a e92, but think a hatch may be more practical (kids etc)

I hear you, get yourself a nice LCI E90. Practicality without sacrificing too much else. When I was in the market the right VW, Ford etc cost about the same as a good BM

I went from E46 330d to a scirocco 2.0tdi and back to a E92 330d, wont go back to a VW again, not a patch on a BMW.
I did it thinking it would be cheaper to run as i do lots of miles, it wasnt!

The new A3 Sportback is an excellent machine.
Clean, frugal and a really excellent drive.
Far away above the roughly equivalent Golf platforms.

Try one and see what all the rave 5* reviews are about?

I've had golfs of various marks and types for the last 15 years, currently have a gttdi which I've had for 6 years, it's a great car.
When I looked last summer to swap I was amazed that I could get my current other car, 320d e92, cheaper than upgrade my golf !!
Love my coupe, build quality and handling is far beyond the vw, but make no mistake golfs are in a league way above the fords/renaults of this world.
Also for me the A3 is a golf copy, and is also far more common car on the road than the golf.

Have you remapped the Golf ?

I remapped my Edition 30 and it turned it into an incredible car ... just a straightforward Superchips Bluefin remap ... I should never have sold it when I did ... but my 330d is great

The golf sounded beautiful (3.2 V6) and was fantastic in all weathers (all wheel drive).
The fuel economy finally sealed its fate. I was doing more and more mileage and it was becoming a big monthly bill.

I like the look of the mk7 gold gti with Performance pack with Manual looks like a good option if you can stomach the 28-29 grand price tag with options.

Looked very seriously at a Mk5 R32 before I got my beemer. Mpg and high road tax were the killers. Shame, it's a great car.

The only golf i would consider is a GTI. Driven loads of them mk5 and 6 and they are great cars. FAntastic fun. the gt is not even close although im aware it looks like it is on paper.
There are build quality issues with the mk5 for example the non leather seats show heavy signs of wear after as little as 40k if not treated very carefully, and dont get me started on dash board rattles. the mk6 seems to be better although ive only driven maybe 30 miles in one. As above said there are loads of great hot hatches about at the min.
Megane 265, Mazda 3 MPS, New shape Focus ST (old one is good but terrible mpg).

I would take a 330i any day over these cars. Why not go estate if you want extra practicality?

i've had a look on autotrader at LCi 325i and 330is, it looks like emissions and fuel ecconomy got better on these later models - is that really the case?

I had a MK5 GTi and it was the best FWD hatchback I've ever owned. I think it depends what else is on your shopping list as to the final decision.

Yeah if your driving is exactly the same as the EU test cycle The emissions game is just a company car tax exercise as BIK is linked to CO2 emissions.
