E90 charge point?

Anybody got a picture of the location? I can see the red plastic positive point to the left of the engine but where is the negative point?

Wanting to use a CTEK conditioner.

There is a bare stud fixed to the left wing (as you look at the engine bay). Lots of brown wires connected here. That's the earth point or negative.

Save your money and by an optimate.

Comes with a few different interface leads that you can pre install to create a plug in charger.

Had one for 10 years + for cars and motorbikes and never had any issues.

Inkey,

Unfortunately not. What I've done in the past is either :-

1. install supplied leads direct to the battery terminals in the boot, tucking the plug in connector out of sight but accessible w/o having to remove battery cover.

OR

2. buy an oem charger socket and mount it in the boot and connect via fused leads to the battery as above and then use leads you can buy with male to fit the above charger socket.

Advantage of # 2 for me was 2 fold:-

a. I have the same charger socket on my bikes so can use charger c/w above male adaptor on all my vehicles.

b. provides a direct fused power socket in the boot not linked to ignition.

Both the above options, the charger leads are slim enough to allow the boot lid to be closed and leave the car secure whilst battery is being charged or conditioned.

on the point of charging, can anyone tell me absolutely that the charge points under the bonnet are directly linked to the battery? or can the charging get cut when the car goes to sleep? I have read varying comments on the topic.

Charging points under the bonnet are not linked to ignition etc ie if put jumper or charger cables onto them then will pass the charge to the battery.

ive got a ctek charger conditioner ,very good and I recommend
Ive only used it once on the bmw the rest of the time it goes on my classic car
I attached it to the charge point under the bonnet (with the red plug/cover near the drivers side suspension turret top)and the neg to the nearest earth (turrettop suspension bolt)
