servicing question
My e92s on 43k miles and needs a rear brake pad service within the next 1k miles.
Just wondering whether its best to take it to a BMW garage or a BMW indie. BMW are quoting me around £260ish whereas a local indies quoted me £135. Is it worth the extra £130ish just for a BMW stamp? |

Brakes are not part of the service schedule they are part of wear and tear, IMO i dont think its worth it for the stamp for the brakes alone.
My advice would be to wither buy the pads/sensor from BMW and get a independant to fit and keep the reciept to show you have used genuine parts Or buy oem pads off euro car parts (rear textar pads i bought for £40) and get an independant to fit the independant that I use is ex BMW techy and he will probably fit the pads for about £45 if you supply the parts If you want details let me know as I have just noticed you are in the West Mids |

Can you tell me what indie you use? As I have the BMW warranty I guess I have to get OEM parts so either through BMW or bmminiparts! |

Pm'ed you details - reason why I used textar was that for a while (not sure if they still do) were the suppliers to BMW for pads so then BMW put their stamp on it and added a few more ££ onto the price
Pagid/Textar/Jurid - i dont think you can go wrong with those and they are all part of TMD friction group which in turn are the suppliers to most manufacturars |

Sorry to thread jack but do you have to use BMW genuine parts when you get the brakes changed? My car currently has extended warranty. I'm thinking of getting the parts from ECP and getting the work done at Darren Woods.
Thanks in advance, Mukaram. |

Brake pads are discs aren't covered by warranty. They are purely a wear and tear part.
If you buy the part from BMW or anywhere else the part will have its own manufacturers warranty against defects. Check out Eurocarparts for Pagid brakes. They are exactly the same as BMW fit minus the BMW stamp. Then you have no argument about BMW quality parts. Does any manufacturer stamp the book for changing brakes? Would you go to BMW to replace worn tyres? No. The service indicators bully people into thinking they have to go to BMW to get things done when it isn't the case for most things. |

For a brake service you won't even get a stamp.
