Smile Removing Front Side Amber Pieces

I recently purchased a 2007 Z4 3.0si. It's Montego Blue. I'd like to know if there are clear pieces to replace the side amber reflectors. I've done a search with no luck.

Does anyone know if I can order these somewhere?

Alot of people have had them painted to match the outside paint color. You could also take them to a body shop that does good work and have the reflector holes filled in, and have the bumper repainted. I think you could find some info in the pictures thread. Rom3n had his filled in, and you'd never know they were there.

I wish it were as easy as it was on the G35 - order the kit - install, what you are showing me looks very complicated. I do appreciate the information, but don't know if I'm ready to have the bumper painted since the car is only two weeks old

Well...I don't think removing the reflectors, painting them and putting them back on is that expensive. The pait itself isn't that much and it wouldn't take long.

Smile

Very true. I want to do the smoke lenses on the back, but without getting rid of the amber pieces I don't think it would look right.

I'm assuming any body shop could do the painting, yes?

I've seen tint applied to them...

It kills the color, but still lights up a little. Quick easy and cheap.

I wouldn't stop by Earl Scheib or Maaco for it, but yes, any competent shop could do this.

I'd also like to point out that, at 2 weeks old, there's no better time to do this. Your paint has no fade, so should be easy to match, and all of your fasteners should be easy to find and work with since they aren't covered in weeks or months of dirt and grime

As far as the right paint shop goes, it may help to ask your local stealer if they recommend a certain paint shop in the area.

The front reflectors on the '06/07 models are pesky to remove.

Jack up the car, pull the black inner fender liner out of the way by removing the fiendish plastic rivets. Then the fun begins; the reflector is held by plastic studs with 10mm self threading nuts. The lower nut is fairly easy to get to but the top one was a real hassle 'cause no socket I had could line up on it so it was an eternity with 10mm open end.

Once ya get the suckers off the same pain in the butt happens when you attempt to fit the nut on the upper stud.

A good body shop tech may have a trick but I'm a pretty experienced wrench and it kicked my ass.

Clear front reflectors come up on E-bay now and then. I got a set for my Alpine white car. Many others have had them painted with great results.

Bah damn BMW for making it so complicated to remove a simple reflector. The E46 ones were so much easier with their snap in // snap out design.

I got vinyl from dansdecals.com cut to the right size. Depending on your paint color he has some vinyls that are dead-on.

-I emailed Dan. I think you can call him too. He kept the sizes on file.

-Possibly. You could always check with a local vinyl supply store. I've heard they have thousands of vinyl colors. Then you'd just have to figure out how to cut them.
