Entry level track tires

Have been looking for good set of street tires for track use only, that balances performance with reasonable costs. I’m fairly new so no need for r-compound tires.

Wondering if anyone here has feed back on these tires in terms of Performance Compared to costs. Track perspective would be great!

Sumitomo HTR Z11, very inexpensive, rated just below “extreme summer performance”

Yokohama AVS es100, Med / low end price, just below “extreme summer performance”

Kumho MX, Med / low price, great reviews, hard to find (lots of back-order)

Appreciate the feedback

Not a direct answer to your question but... You have the K1s right? Gary at the Tirerack recommended the Bridgestone 01R on K1s when I called him just yesterday. 17x8.5 K1 with 235 40s. He also said the 245s would be good but he couldn't guarantee no rubbing with stock suspension though I don't think there would be a problem.

Someone on his board is running the KI’s with 245’s on all 4 corners and says he has no problems. I punched in the K1 #’s with 245’s in the tire calculator and it claims no increase on the how far the tire sticks out compared to stock, and a 12 mm less clearance on the inside. I checked and it looks like I have that room on my car.

I’ll be going with the 245’s on my car, which has eibach pro’s on it. I’ll post how it works out.

These are the current tires I'd recommend listed in order, from best to still better than an all-season street tire. These are the only ones I would consider buying if I were doing track days on my street tires.

Yokohama Advan Neova AD07
Bridgestone RE-01R*
Hankook RS-2 Z212*
Kumho Ecsta MX*
Falken Azenis RT-615*
Kumho SPT*
Maxxis MA-Z1 Victra

*I have driven on or own a set of each tire marked

Just curious how many people have tried the 245's on the front? If so any reports of rubbing?

most of what you listed would make a good summer performance tire, but i think the 2 best track tires that are not r-comps for the PRICE are hankook z212 and kumho rt615. I've noticed the z212s need to be shaved to be as fast, though.

I would suggest you consider the : Falken Azenis RT-615*

RT-615's are hard to beat grip wise for a non r-comp, other than re-01r's which are almost 2x the price

Spend the extra money and get the RE-01Rs instead of the RT-615s.

Falken 615 for the price and performance. You can even drive to the track with them on.
