Adding those fog lights to a US M Sport?

I believe the official excuse for skipping fog lights on the US cars has something to do with our climate and how we spend so much time out on the racetrack.

But if you live in a temperate place in the states and don't race in racetracks all that much, will the local dealership install some fog lights for ya? Simple install or code changes to the software too? Big bucks?

Thx.

Im sure they will charge you. My dealer charges 475 to replace a broken foglight.

I think recoding of the car is required as well.

Ask some of the Sport line people how happy they are with their $500 with labor replacement fog ligts everytime a rock hits it and cracks it. So go ahead, put something on your car that costs $1000 to install and half that per side replacement, and let me know how happy you are in a year or two with something you will almost never use.

Now, if you still want to do it, notice your M Sport does not have the ducts to place the stock foglights in it. Now go and order an M Sport European front bumper, get it painted, then add the foglights, and let me know how much it costs you. Then repeat above while cussing about how stupid of an idea it was when you have to replace said foglights from rocks.

The ROI on that is probably pretty low.

Aside from just mounting the lights in the bumper, and whatever wiring/coding is involved, you'd also need to install the correct stalk/switch inside to get them to turn on and off.

Not at all ROn, I was just merely stating what several people wiht Sport Lines have stated, and the reason several are switching over to the M Sport bumper, with all the additional ducting that needs to be done. To each his own though, so if you like it, trade with a person with a sport line. I did not mean to come off so bad, but was stating what others have gone through with the glass foglights so close to the ground. Enjoy what you want to, and keep on moving on.

No Sherweeny, I am a realist, not an optimist or pesimist. If the glass is half full of water, and I am thirsty, I am going to drink it, not comment on the level of the line. Look around, and you will see more people that want to get rid of the glass foglights then want to keep them, especially after breaking 1 or 2 of them. But as I stated to Ron, to each his own. It is your time, your car, your money, so enjoy life and keep on moving.

I get what I want because of my personal preferences, and I hope everyone else does the same. If the poll sais 95% like the fog lights, and only 5% like it without, then I guess I will live in my 5% since I do not let what others think change my decision. So if Ron loves the fog lights look, then he should go and buy them. But I will say at least head my warning about how easily they can chip/break with rocks and debris.

Yeah, I read that too. So funny!!! Sorry about those orange reflectors you guys have on the front bumpers. Probably worse than not having fog lights.

Best move by those who have swapped them out for colour coded inserts.

I'm going to give it a shot with black Rustoleum first.

Hey--just bustin'

I've put off buying to get the "upgraded" nav system, so I'll be putting in an order very soon. I read somewhere the silly BS rationale for not putting fog lights in US F30s and thought they might be useful for...I don't know---fog?

Maybe the EU guys are right about the looks. They seem to have the edge on male style, right?

I have to admit, I've always liked fogs because they fill in the light pattern close to the car, and yes, I have to concede that calling them fog lights is dumb because you can never run them without the low beams which defeats the purpose. Having said that, I've found that the adaptive xenons alone have a better pattern and better lighting close in than any car I've had with fogs, and I also have come to the conclusion that the front end looks a lot nicer without them. Glad I got the MSport. Oh, and I'm now convinced the front cameras are a necessity to prevent ripping off the front of the car while parking near a curb.

I did the Sportline partially because of the fog lights. So far, three 3-Series and never damaged or replaced a fog light/lens.

It is an uncommon problem, not a factor I would take into account when deciding whether to include fog lights.

They're technically "driving lights". True "fog lights" have amber lenses. I think they've been incorrectly called fog lights for so long it's now a part of the vernacular.

I see no reason why the parts from a Euro market car would fit. Of course you would be impeding the flow to the coolers which are there for a legitimate reason.

It's likely all that would be required is a wire harness and some coding to make them functional. I'll bet it won't be cheap though.

They're not particularly useful from a functional standpoint, it's more about aesthetics. They light up the road immediately in front of the car. You're not long for this world if you're focused on the road 5' in front of your car while driving.

Agreed. I can't remember when I had a car without fogs.
