European Car Magazine Review of ER's F30 328i

Here's an early review of some of the performance modifications Evolution Racewerks has been working on for the F30 328i. The chargepipe, intercooler, and full modular exhaust is currently in the works and should be featured in our next review

Really looking forward to the new parts, definitely on my list of things to do.

For those of you who do not know about ER, they produce very high quality parts in-house here in Southern California. Great parts, excellent customer service, cool people!

After the results of the intake shown in the article, have you guys kind of re-evaluated a bit, or the nature of heat under the hood and intake style nets results typical of whats shown in the article?

Just like the N54 and N55 engines, the N20 will only really benefit form an open element intake once proper tuning takes place. For now, the stock airbox is sufficient for the amount of air the car needs but as tuning increases and we pump up the psi, the stock airbox will become a restriction and that's when the open air intake will become very beneficial.

Good to know.

it's so early in the game with this engine.

On one hand I am anxious to jump in and see gains, but on the other I want to be patient and see what parts are really worth it as time shows the real benefits from the $$$ wasters.

I have had intakes on small displacement Saab's(2.0+2.3L turbo) and VW(2.0 TSI). It became widely accepted on modern Saabs that intakes were for sound only. The intake on my VW TSI though, made so much noticeable power that the clutch slipped when putting it on and stopped when I took it off and sold the car stock. It showed a nearly 15whp gain with software. HUGE.

In my opinion, it really depends on tuning as well as how restrictive the stock intake is. Despite all the controversy for dual cone intakes on the N54, our time attack 135i performs the best on the track with the Injen intake versus any other closed intake. I also switched back and forth between the stock intake and the Injen in my own 335i and I must say the Injen is definitely better when the car is tuned.

Does the downpipe create any CEL or alerts in the ECU?

Just like the N54 and N55, catless downpipes will throw a service engine soon light in the ecu for the N20. BMS is already working on a DP fix and should be releasing it soon, however.
