Require/Encourage Pricing information in FS Thread?

One of the first things that I do when I'm thinking about buying or selling anything (whether wheels for my car or a house) is to search for pricing comparisons. I've noticed a growing trend in the FS section for people not to post any price information, and to conduct all price related discussion by PM or email.

I understand why seller's are interested in keeping negotiations (especially if they fall through) private, but I'm wondering whether a seller's interest in privacy is outweighed by the benefit to the community at large of building a database of cost comparisons.

Maybe a requirement that all FS listings include an asking price is too draconian (although I for one like the idea), but a softer alternative may be an "official" position by E90post that requests that all FS threads include a price?

Bottom line, I think FS pricing information is helpful for everyone in figuring out how much to ask for, and how to pay for second hand products.

I whole heartedly agree. List your price. It isn't an auction.

Further more, leave your asking price in the thread after it's sold.
That helps more people know what to price a similar item at when they sell.

Yep, shouldn't be allowed to post a FS thread without the price.

Agree 100%

The classifieds are almost useless since every time an item comes along that I would normally consider, it has no price listed.

I completely agree, and second that comment regarding vendors. I don't see the point in having a thread for a new product from a vendor advertising a super blowout sale or whatnot, which then requires you to pm for a price. The thread is then inevitably filled with 300 identical posts saying, "PM best price to 00000". Your price should be your price; are they offering different numbers for forum members they know?

Not to be a pessimist, but how does one know the base price isn't magically changing? I'm not throwing any names under the bus, but I pm'ed a vendor for a price on the same part 45 days apart, and the two quotes were $20 apart. There's no baseline for me to compare to or fall back on, and that breeds skepticism.

Love this!! Whenever I try to buy something in the for sale thread I always get "beat out" by people PMing the person and offering higher prices. We shouldn't need to haggle or guess.

Bingo!.... The mods should just delete the post if there is no selling price.

At the other forums I visit/sponsor, if there is no price the thread gets deleted.

Mods, I know 16 replies (so far) isn't exactly a landslide, but is this something the forum would be willing to consider?

I would assume an overwhelming majority of members would agree to have prices in all classified ads.

I definitely agree. I would like if there was some sort of rule saying the member/vendor would have to put a price.

Anything I have to PM for is on "ignore", way to many suppliers these days anyhow. some are willing to sell at pennies over cost. Many parts are a no profit game so I understand why prices are not posted.
