Took the 335ix to a track day....SWEET

Decided to sign up for a full day instructed track session at NJMP (http://www.njmp.com/how-do-i-get-on-track.html) last week, first time taking it to the track. AWESOME time. It was on their thunderbolt track, 2.2 Miles, just a great time, and great instructors. I did the full day Hot Laps with Instructor, so you drive the entire time with an instructor, but you are not limited to how fast you go, just how fast you can handle it. Car really handled great, impressed how it took the turns at high speed, and definitely felt better after the first 2 sessions. There were 4 total.

7 total cars on the track at the same time. Porsche Carrera 4, Mini Cooper S (Damn this thing took the turns well), 2012 Mustang, 2013 Camaro RS with the crazy ass 600HP engine, 1990 modded corvette, Miata, and me. Passing is only done on certain areas with the front car signalling to go ahead. Other cars were doing 110-115 on the back straight, 335 was getting to 125. I didn't take the turns or mash the brakes as hard as i could, so i lost a bit in the turns, but was not ready to really push it to the limits first time out.

Would definitely do it again, but next time fill up the tank after the 2nd session at the break. I had to stop on the last session because my gas meter said I had 8 miles left. I was getting 6MPG on the track. Had to get it to the station a few miles away when I left, barely made it.

One cool note, the instructor drove the first 2 laps so I could see the track, and when he hit the brakes he said "Holy crap these are good brakes." Nice...was on new tires and brakes, and after the track day the tires were really not that bad at all. Better than I thought.

Good time, would definitely recommend it. Next time I will hook up a camera mount though, didn't have one this time.

Sounds like awesome day! Something I'd eventually like to do. How were the instructors? Being a rookie on the track what kind of advice did they give you?

Your wheels look like mine after a normal day... curse OEM pads and their dust

I was running 37 Front and 40 Rear. He said I could bump it up some but decided to just leave it the way it was for the first time out.

@Marshall: Instructor I had was really good. They have a headset in the helmet so are talking you through the entire track as needed giving you advice and saying what to look for. They have cones and numbers set up on the sides of the track too signalling brake zones and apex to shoot for. After the first session you really get a feel for the track and what to aim for. I have an automatic so kept it in Sport mode and used the paddles to go between 3rd and 4th gears for the most part. Hit 5th a few times on the back straight too.

I did something similar when I first got my 335xi. Best $500 I ever blew. It was pretty awesome to get a pro-car driver behind your wheel, and show you what the car can do. It was a blast, and if I had the dough, I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

Engine was flawless. I was a little worried too about killing the damn thing, but it was great. Oil temp never really got too high either, I was pretty shocked. Definitely a car meant to be driven.

I also have a 335xi, if you want to REALLY get a rush at the track, get a COBB AP (or other tune). After flashing with the COBB, your car will be a beast!!!

I have been wanting to take mine out to the track. Now this gives me more of a reason wanting to try mine out.

Are you completely stock?
